Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread
Yeah I'm here, barely sane, but here. Got my marriage license yesterday, sooo exciting, I'm almost a Mrs, woohoo !!!!!! Yeah and my bachelorette party is tomorrow. My girls are cooking up something sneaky. I know we are going into the city, but dunno where, and I think they either got us a hotel room for the nite or a limo all nite, haven't figured that out yet, but I figured I'd dress up so no matter where we go, I'll stand out, hehehehehehe.Getting frustrated with FH parents since they are super, duper religious, they want everything by the book and it's starting to irritate me....anybody else???

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread
Oh yeah, forget RSVP's from Fh family, she had to give me a list of names after she called everyone because out of like 100 cards she gave out, I got 3 RSVP's, so be prepared to make sure FH parents make those calls. I'm still changing seating around because people coming and going. Gotta drop off the place cards and table setting on Tuesday so I'm gonna have the hall write a note, 'If you do not see your name here, please feel free to sit at Table 17. Thank you!' Sound nice enough, that's my nosebleed table for those people who assumed we 'KNEW' they were coming.

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread
how exciting Nancy!!!
so tomorrow will be tons of fun day.. enjoy!! you def. need it!!
you are so sweet and generous to have an extra table for non RSVPers.... i was contemplating that too..
but most likely won't
about the marriage license.. so how does it work.. you apply for it and then on the day of who signs it besides you and FH?? and who sends it in? i've heard so many different things!! yeah FH's parents are super duper religious and traditional too and my parents are willing to let things slide a bit for convenience sake.. but overall it was/is quite irritating when we had to pick dates, times, wedding format believe it or not..
so smile and no worries!!

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread
craznanDo you think they are taking you to a men show?
If so,you should not wear skirt tomorrow if you dont know where you going. In case you are on the stage and swing you around
Enjoy!
Mrs.V2be,
you have to get your marriage license at least 24 hours before your wedding, so be the safe side, you are getting married in end of may, so apply for it end of April or begining of May, it vaild for 60 days. Dont wait til the last min. to do it. Sometimes it maybe a long line in the city hall/clark.

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread
No No No Men show, I made sure of that. They can do whatever they want with me but no strippers or no men show, I can't deal with that. But yes, the drunk part, that I will definately be, I need that right about now!!!
For the license, we went to the city clerk in queens, filled out the form there, gave them $35 money order and they print up your marriage license. You then have to give it to the officiant performing the ceremony. But if you are having the ceremony at the Mandir/Gurdwara, you have to make sure that the officiant performing the ceremony is registered with the city and then they can sign the license and sent it in to the state and in about 3-4 weeks, you get your marriage certificate.
If they are not registered, you will most likely need a civil ceremony at the courthouse when you get your license. Go to www.marriagelicense.com and they will explain it all to you.
GG Copying, your dresses were soo beautiful, I;m nervous about the Sikh ceremony, was your ceremony long??

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread
Don't worry, stop losing your mind.....at least not yet,
Anyway, go and ask your officiant to get registered with the city, does not take long, all he has to do is fill out an application, you have plenty of time. They will tell him what else he needs to do. But you have enough time, at least you found this out earlier rather than later. Even if he does not get registered, you can have the civil ceremony at the court and then the formal ceremony on your day. A lot of people get that done as well. Check up on it.

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread
Thanks RGV, good to see you againcraznan, sikh ceremony is not that long, it is about 45 min. your FH is doing the outdoor 'reception' when he arrives rt?
If so, make sure your guest know they are dancing outside of Gurdwara. coz some of my guest were waiting inside of Gurdwara and didn't know they were dancing outside.
I will give you all some small reviews of my weddings later (maybe tonight
) coz i am at work nowThanks GTbride
sorry, that Menhdi was from India, I had a reception in India too, that's why i was MIA for 2 months
The color thing on my table is the 'table runner' I asked my MIL to make it. She did a wonderful job.

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread
Thanks gg copying. Most of my guests for the ceremony will be family so they are familiar with the baraat. My friends are mostly gonna come at night for the reception since there is such a large gap between both.Did you guys have breakfast and lunch served or just one?? My FMIL wants both, like a light snack breakfast and buffet lunch but we think it's too much.

Well, my girls are planning my mendhi party. i would estimate about 25 girls. I think the party is on a thurs. night. I would probably do it on Friday. My wedding is on Saturday.
or should i just get it done on thurs? I am not a big fan of mendhi. the smell turns my stomach. Will my hands and feet be stinky on saturday? or should i do it on thursday...ughh i confuse myself alot lately. FH is irratated with me![]()
Do it Thursday.. so the colors will set!
