yay!! two down.. and i'm sure you have a ton more to go..

is anyone following a skin regimen for the big day? or just sticking to the regular facials and stuff?

I'm actually going for my first ever facial in a couple of weeks. I've been breaking out a lot lately...and I never break out....so hopefully that'll help clean my face a bit.

no one has done alterations in jackson heights before?

all i ever had done was a sari blouse fitted. what r u trying to have altered?

i am trying to get my bridal lengha altered. My skirt is long and they have to cut the top but i am afraid to take it to anyone cause there is heavy embroidery on it. also, my sleeves are long on the top.

I would suggest first giving whomever you're thinking of going to another lengha with a lot of work on it to see how it turns out. I did that even with my sari blouse....took one that was nice but not super duper nice to get done first so i could see the quality of work

Just wanted to share.....I had a great trial with Kacey from Khoulouds today. I was very happy with it....the make up felt very natural, the hair was nice....I think I might tweak it a bit....because i originally thought I would get a tiarra but now I'm leaning towards hair pins instead and don't want it so high in front. anyway, i booked her...and that's 2 more things to cross off my list!

awesome!! i used kacey also/ she's soo fun to talk to and be with on your day of.

Yea, she mentioned your wedding and how good you were to work with. Did you use her 2x....in the morning and the evening? I didn't even think about that till she mentioned it. I can't afford to, but i'm worried about my hair holding up after the ceremony (during the ceremony we put our sari on our head...and i'm scared it'll mess up my hair)

yeah, i had her come in the evening also because i really wanted to wear my hair down, but even with that extra $ it was still cheaper than hiring an indian lady to stay with me the whole day. maye she'll work on prive with u if u ask her to come twice?

eta: i think u'll be fine with one style throughout the entire day. it held up really well and i'm sure it would have been fine till the end of the day

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

facials do wonders.. a week before the engagement, i started used haldi and it worked magic on my skin.. but makesure you use gloves or something..

try to see if you can work out the price w/ her because it would be worth having her around for touch ups and maybe even give you a different look.. mine was able to give me a break b/c i need her for two days..

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

Hey, sorry it took me so long to get back to you, I have been sooo busy. I had my Surprise Bridal Shower this weekend, it was really nice and I had soo much fun. Puts you even more into the wedding spirit. Anyway, I did not have a contract with my salon. We agreed on a price range a few months ago for the number of people I wanted and I booked the time slot. Now I just went about 1 week ago for the hair trial and we confirmed number of people and time so they can arrange for the hairdressers and makeup girl to be available. I think it's better to go to the salon because I will have soooooo many people from out of town at my house and if we were to have somebody come there, then everybody would want to get their stuff done by the professional and then that's not fair. So that's why we chose to go to the salon.

Usually neighborhood salons don't give you a contract unless they specialize in bridal. But I got a great deal, $65 for my makeup day of, $45 makeup for bms, $70 for hair day of and $55 for bm hair. So I thought that was reasonable and I really liked the way they did my hair and makeup for my e-party as well. So, hope that helps!

I had a great time at my shower but the one pet peeve I had was that if some girls were invited to the shower, but could not come, are they supposed to send us gifts??

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

oo suprise bridal shower.. that's awesome... congrats!!!!

umm gifts part.. technically yes they are supposed to send you a gift.. so maybe they realized on the day of or the night before that they will not be able to attend and sent you the gift at the point.. so it might be in transit..

omgg.. 2 more weeks!! first desi bride of '08!!!

i'm going to check out the hotel w/ the rents today!!

GT.. I was told that if I book more than 20, I have to liable for 85% of the rooms.. so I reduced the number of rooms and I still got an awesome rate.. and it's just soo purrrtyyyy..
It's a much classier hotel than I had initially planned for..

I love being a girl..

what hotel are you going with?
Really, your liable. that so strange, my coordinator nor did corporate say anything to me! oh well

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

Hey GT,

We are looking into the one and only palmilla. Its really pricey but we're thinking the flights were cheap and its once in a lifetime so why not have the time of our lives.

I know people who have stayed at the pueblo bonito properties, hilton and sheraton. They all had great things to say about them all. Where are you thinking of going?

Isla Mujers (near cancun) is also supposed to be beautiful. Check that out too.
