Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

Have anyone done alteration in Jackson heights? If so, who have you used?

What are you girls doing about hair? I was thinking about going to a salon with all my girls instead of someone coming to me. We all have extremely thick hair and I feel like we should go to the salons cause we can use the dryers and all their products are there.

I check out a place i had in mind. They basically told me to come in 2 wks before the wedding for a trial and then that day we will go over details for the entire wedding party. Isn't 2wks before the wedding a bit late to make arrangements for hair?

nancy, i know your using your local salon. How was the arrangement? did they give you a contract?

I did post on the Vendors site and I got a lot of feedback which is great.. now ALL I need to do to finalize the limo part would be to figure a hotel where the family will be staying... they're asking for like 200 a night.. and of course my parents want to pay for like all of our family that will be staying for two nights..

I'm looking up hotels too....the lowest quote i've gotten so far is $149/night at the holiday inn in suffolk.....I hear it's not gorgeous, but they don't require a minimum # of nights, or a min # of rooms booked....and if 10+ rooms are booked, they offer shuttle service to the RH.

I spoke with the Hilton in Melville and they require a min # of booked rooms.....say we block 10, and they require 7 are booked, but only 5 guests book rooms....we'd be responsible for the other 2....i'm not having that.

I think we're going to block 2 hotels (the holiday inn and a nicer one) and let the guests have their choice. We're also selecting a hotel that has a bar and telling our friends by word of mouth about it.....that's where we'll be staying the night of so it'll be a nicer place, and we hope to continue the party there.

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

wow, Hilton requires you to be responsible if all the rooms are not met thats insane. I blocked 30 if they are not meet by a month before the wedding well they are released. No responsiblity here..

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

I would rather underestimate and have less rooms blocked rather than be responsible for it..

I am getting married in the Nassau/Queens border, so I the hotels are either tooo far off, so has too far into Queens.. so I have to work with the few I have..

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

I got my engagement sari blouse and a couple of other blouses done at a place in hicksville....it's right by delco plaza (where the blockbuster is)....there's a row of indian outfit stores......i'm drawing a complete blank on the name right now though. but, when you get off nothern state on 35s....stay towards the left where it splits by the train station......keep going until u pass the taco bell on ur left, and it's like the next light....make a uturn....haha, hope that helps a little

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

Just wanted to share.....I had a great trial with Kacey from Khoulouds today. I was very happy with it....the make up felt very natural, the hair was nice....I think I might tweak it a bit....because i originally thought I would get a tiarra but now I'm leaning towards hair pins instead and don't want it so high in front. anyway, i booked her...and that's 2 more things to cross off my list!

i am trying to get my bridal lengha altered. My skirt is long and they have to cut the top but i am afraid to take it to anyone cause there is heavy embroidery on it. also, my sleeves are long on the top.

Yea, she mentioned your wedding and how good you were to work with. Did you use her 2x....in the morning and the evening? I didn't even think about that till she mentioned it. I can't afford to, but i'm worried about my hair holding up after the ceremony (during the ceremony we put our sari on our head...and i'm scared it'll mess up my hair)

She charges $50 for hair trial, $50 make up trial. Day of is $150 for each (but I'm being charged $175 because it's a holiday weekend....and I didn't feel like haggling, I was just happy to get it done). and I think like $95 for each bm
