Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

Nancy, sounds like a great deal!!

So you're not having a lady come to the ceremony/reception site dress you and stay with you for makeup?

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

No, no lady for the ceremony. The ceremony starts at like 10:00 am in the gurdwara, so I'm just gonna have light makeup and no hair done (since it's under dupatta, just a bun). It should be over by like 12-1 and then a little bit a Mother-in-law house and then off to the salon to get ready for the reception. The cocktail hr doesn't start until 7 pm so we really don't have to be at my hall for pictures until like 5:30-6pm. We have the limos until 6pm. So I figured, I don't need anybody for the morning. Plus I am wearing a salwar kameez for the morning ceremony, so I don't need to go all out with hair and makeup.

I can't believe it's almost here. My girls are planning something for my bachelorette party this weekend as well, I can't wait!!!!!!!

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

No idea, they each keep tying to throw me off the track by saying did you want a limo? Wait, did you want a hotel?? Where were we going again? So I have no idea. I hope it's just a night in the city, we go out to dinner then a club to dance. That's all I really want. Haven't gone out with the girls for a while and just at this point, need a night of drinking and being chill.

Well at least my sister helped me pick out an outfit, so it's dressy so I figured we going somewhere nice.

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

Wow, 60 days, I know how you feel. Before you know it, it will be here. I still can't believe that mine is next week already. All the planning and everything is going to get put to the test. I hope I pass it!! LOL

Now my ribbons finally came in today. Gotta setup 150 favors, finish the card box, finish the placecards and table arrangements and send them all to the hall by next tuesday. I think that can work, might not sleep, but hey, who needs sleep right??

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

It'll get done.. no worries!!!

The more things I scratch off my list, the more things pop up.. little I did think of hotels, now I have to think of shuttle service to the RH and food for our guests!!! Dinner, brunch.. you name it!!

This month most stuff should be done.. catering, decorators and chats w/ the RH. Sometime in between, I'm planning to go meet the baker and I am eagerly awaiting my invites!!

It's all coming together..

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

Yeah my sister's gonna help me. Also, I have my 2 aunts from India at my house right now, bored while we all go to work, so I can have them do it as well, I will just have to check on their work.

Good thing I don't have to worry about hotels, all of my family will be staying at my house (Huge basement) and we are going to rent a few minivans so that should work.

Thanks a lot girls for all the support, you have all been great

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

most hotels provide free shuttle if certain number of rooms are booked at the RH is 5 miles of the hotel.. so maybe your hotel could do that for you..

the problem is that our guests have dietary restrictions so we need to have something that would be suitable! and there are places that are quite resonable.. nothing fancy shamncy u know..

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

I wasn't sure about the food or shuttle but we decided to just provide shuttle for the day of the wedding. A friend actually asked me if i was providing shuttle service to the sangeet and functions at my house. Are we supposed to?

Also, what are you guys doing about the horse/pony and dhol during the barat? Do any of you know who to talk to about this?

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

technically you are supposed to provide shuttle to people if the venue is not where they are staying.. but it's not feasible to ask them and the shell out cash for transportation especially if they are flying in.. for mendhi and sangeet.. again.. if you are inviting them to attend a few days before.. and take off from work to attend and pay couple hundred bucks extra to stay at the hotel.. it might be viewed as an obligation from the wedding party..

you'll hear both sides on this.. in the end go with what is best for your family and friends.. my mendhi is a couple of days before and people will be staying at my house.. but i also live 2 hrs away from the wedding venue, so it wouldn't be feasible to put them there..
