who are you tipping? edited to say: I think I just can't take it anymore
I see that we are always talking about tips. But, to be honest, if I tipped as many vendors as much as I hear on these boards, I would really be broke. So, who REALLY needs to be tipped? And, my hall charged me 15% gratuity. Why is it that I am supposed to feel compelled to tip on top of this? Should I really pitch in MORE money because my hall supposedly does not give this gratuity to the wait staff and banquet manager?

Re: who are you tipping?
We were charged an 18% Gratuity. And were told we have to tip the wait staff ontop of that. Because that 18% covers their salary for the day. BULL SH***.We are tipping:
The wait staff
The Maitre D
The Bridal Attendant (s)
The DJ
The Photographer
The Videographer
The Officiant
The Ceremony Musician
If you want to know exact numbers (FM me)f

I don't think its necessary to tip the wait staff...you pay enough in gratituty. I think just the Matrie D is good...

Re: who are you tipping?
I don't think you have to tip owners. My makeup/hair artist is the owner of her company and I'm tipping her anyway. I really would not feel right not tipping her.

Re: who are you tipping?
Just a thought. A friend of mine is a hair dresser, and she did a bridal partys hair and make up and the bride gave her a smaller tip, and a nice 'thank you' basket. My friend thought it was a really nice token of appreciation. My friend had to get up at 4:30 to drive 1 1/2 hours for this and the owner of the salon decided not to show. So she did 5 peoples hair that morning.I know a gift basket for the waitstaff would be stupid, but depending on how friendly you become with these people, its nt a bad idea for some.

Re: who are you tipping?
I am tipping almost no one- Except for teh bridal attendant- gratuities with my hall are all included. I am tipping my hair person. (Still need to find a make up person) Almost everyone else i booked has their own company and I usually don't tip owners. If someone does an extraordinary job I will tip them.

Why are you tipping your photographer and videographer? We dont plan on doing it. It is ridiculous, they already charge you so much money as it is.

We're tipping them b/c they will be with us for about 12 hours. I would not feel right not giving them anything. And we will be feeding them.

Re: who are you tipping?
I always thought that I was paying them for their service. If they wanted the additional money, wouldn't they incorporate that into the actual price?

Re: who are you tipping?
I agree. Some of the tipping is a little ridiculous. I plan on tipping where appropriate. I won't 'automatically' tip someone. They have to do a wonderful job and deserve it.

Re: who are you tipping?
What does everyone think about tipping after the fact? I read one review where a bride sent her tips the next day after her and FH had time to sit down and go over who they felt needed to be tipped and how much?Welcome New Vendors
