Vera Wang Gown

Please Help!!! I found a dress yesterday that I am sooooo in love with! It happens to be way out of my budget though! It's a Vera Wang and I wanted to know if anyone know's where I can possibly get a new one at a good price! It's a brand new style so I can't buy a sample or one on consignment! Thanks!!!

Thanks so much everyone! What a day it was! Thanks for the well wishes.

Michelle W.....I want pics too!! I can't wait to see them!!

You won't find a brand new Vera Wang gown cheap. You should look at similar styles. I bought my dress at Michelle Roth NYC after going to Vera Wang. Most of the dresses at Vera Wang are between $3500-$12,000. The dresses at Michelle Roth NYC started at $2500. If you are looking for a couture dress I would try there.

You can also try renting a dress. There are a few places in Manhattan that do this.

One of the department stores in NYC carries Vera Wang, I think it is Neiman Marcus. I think their prices may be a little better than the showroom.
What room are you in at Watermill? We are upstairs in the Astor. We have narrowed down our photographer/video search to two Imagine Studios and Sherwood Triart. I am sending out quote requests to each of them today. We also considered Proline, but decided to go with a less traditional style.
How are you doing with music?

Rachel
How was the service at Michele Roth NYC? Did you get to the fitting stage yet?
Thanks

Yes I am going for my 3rd fitting on the 24th. My wedding is 11/11. I found the consultants that I worked with to pick my dress to be AMAZING. I found Michelle Roth to be exceptionally talented. I am not crazy about the woman that manages the fitting department. My first fitting happened to fall on a Sat. that they were running behind, so I felt rushed. Also, keep in mind that I have not seen my dress since Nov. 1999, when I ordered it. It came in Sept 5th and I wanted to inspect it and everything else, so to say the least, I was a bit annoyed for being rushed. Well, the dress fit very well, as it should if it is made for you, but after seeing the pics that my Mom took, I was disappointed with the way it fit and how my veil was hanging. I called up to let them know and they said, 'well, it was only your first fitting, most girls have 2.' My second fitting was scheduled for 10/24. I didn't want to wait that long to feel confident that my dress was going to be what I wanted. I insisted that they get me in for a 2nd fitting the next week. They accomodated me, but I didn't like being dismissed. Anyway, after realizing that I was not going to deal with being dismissed after paying thousands of $$$ for a wedding gown, her tune changed. She was very accomodating on my second visit and I am more confident that my dress will be everything that I expect it to be. I will let you know how it goes on Oct 24th.
Thanks

Rachel, what was the charge for alterations? If I buy the Vera Wang at Sak's bridal salon there is a set fee of $500.00 I think that's a little high, especially if it's made for me I might not need that many alterations.

Stick to your guns, Girl!!! You let him know in advance of how you feel regarding this, and he agreed!

Thanks! I think if I get the dress I'll take it somewhere else, very reputable but not Sak's!

I'm not exactly sure where it is (I'm doing a lot of my planning from NYC), but you can check out the website http://www.residenceinn.com/ - it is a Marriott property. hope this helps!

It is VERY expensive to get a dress altered. You may be better off going to Vera Wang directly.

Hi Rachel, I'm buying the dress in Texas where I live so I have to buy it from Sak's. I went to a botique in my area yesterday and they actually want 400 more for the dress than Saks and their service was terrible. The lady at Sak's was very nice. Thanks!

I would definitely ask around for a good tailor because my friend bought her dress at David's Bridal and brought it back to Maine and since she did not buy it there, the tailor charged her $600 for alterations b/c of the fabric. The alterations cost more than the dress!!!! Watch out. And, if the dress is custom made for you, that does not mean that you won't need a lot of alterations. Your body changes a lot in 10 months!!! Just be careful. I would hate for you to spend so much on your gown and then have to spend so much for altering it.

Rachel
One more question please? How much lead time did you need with Michele Roth. I was planning on ordering in March for Sept. Do you think I need more time?
Thanks

You will never make it. They won't even make an appointment for you unless you have 8 months. I worked with Cathy, who was really down to earth and was able to look at my body and pick my dress. She was great. I would definitely call them to see when you should go in for a dress to be ready in Sept.
Thanks

Can I negotiate on prices at Sak's or try to talk the sales lady down?

I didn't take it as you being an animal hater or cruel person at all. Believe me, I have 2 cats that have always slept on the bed and had free reign and when we moved in my fiance expressed a desire to keep them out of the bedroom because he doesn't like hair on his pillow. Because these are my babies, I didn't want to concede. We worked through it by BOTH being willing to concede a bit - have you discussed the idea of a bed for the dog next to his side. I hope he wasn't completely close minded to some compromise. That would be the source of frustration for me, especially if it was discussed prior to moving in. Try to talk it out with him as calmly and openminded as possible - I mean, try to express your feelings without getting upset even if he says the 'this was a mistake' line again...truly see how much he is willing to see your side of it. Because the compromising and working it out so both parties are happy is the goal when we are part of a couple, not either person winning or getting their own way.

I hope you can work through this with him. I guarantee you this is along the lines of the type of argument you will have in the future with child rearing, finances, careers and all the other bigger topics. Handling things like this with the pets is how we learn more on communication with this person. Hang in there.

I have to agree with Rachel. You can't bargain for a couture dress unfortunately :(

You could also get a photo of the dress & have a GREAT seamstress copy it. Risky, I know, but an option.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

Thanks Rachel I'll give them a call the next month.

I went to a 'family' birthday party 2-3 years ago in Pennsylvania. It was for my fiance's 3 YEAR OLD NEPHEW. We had to spend the night because it is way to far to go and come back. We had the party and it was getting dark out. The party ended. The men in the family decided to have a 'boys night out' and leave us females to ourselves. You guessed it...they went to a strip club. This was my first experience with anything like this, and let me tell you how not thrilled I was. My fiance could have said no when he saw how upset I was....but I wasn't supposed to know that this was where they were going (boys secret). Keep in mind - this is his family (sisters, brothers, nephews and neices) that were at this party. Well, off they went.

When he came back, he smelled of alcohol, and we got into a small fight. He claims he was watching the TV they had set up in the corner the whole night. Then proceeds to come on to me. Not Kosher!! I knew I could trust him with them...the issue was that he 'seemed' to be excited after looking at them. Maybe that wasn't the case...maybe he realized what he had after looking at something new for a change. But you couldn't have told me that on that night.

I didn't think I could but I thought it was worth a try!

But they certainly do go over these things at the rehearsal. Of course, I know of one story where the priest did not show up to the rehearsal, and the couple was left to pretend on their own. Somehow, though, it all worked out flawlessly on the big day.

Nicole,
I can certainly relate. I went in to Vera Wang a month ago and found 'the dress'. Nothing will ever compare...it is out of the price range for sure. I went to the sample sale in the city on an off chance that it might be there....no luck. I am going back in next friday to a bunch of different consignment shops. I know i wont find that EXACT dress but maybe somehting similar....I dunno. VERY disappointing cuz i fell in love with this dress....i certainly sympathize...best of luck 2 u. THe good news is that i did get 4 beautiful champagne bridesmaid dresses at the sample sale for a total of 150 dollars!!!
I'm not quite sure what you want, but the deal where you just get the video at the end of the night doesn't sound worthy. I agree about baby pictures and some graphics are cheezy. However $1,000-$1,100 is good. We are using Joe Art and his video is just a little more. They are many times throughout the day where no music is playing...it is during those times that some nice tune both u and ur fi would fit nice.
