My MIL bought a zillion dollar dress and then had it torn apart and made into a new one. She spent a fortune. Plus she HAD to get the new Vera Wang shoes. You would never know she spent so much though. I am not sure if it was more then mine but it was up there.

Don't get me wrong, I love my MIL. But jeez

My mom came pretty close to be honest. First of all she was originally going to buy a Demetrios BRIDAL gown in IVORY (see pic below). That gown was around $1500, I think. Luckily, DH flipped out and made me talk her out of it, BUT it was already ordered and paid for by that point so she technically lost that money. She ordered it without telling me about it first.

Then, she also bought a $1500 Versace gown that she was going to change into for the reception.

She finally ended up finding a Jovani gown for around $1000 that she wore all day and night (only because she ended up not having time to change into the red Versace gown) So, grand total, all her gowns cost about $4000 which...now that I add it up, YES did actually cost more than my wedding gown. So change my vote.

Sounds like my Mom and your MIL have alot in common....

my mom and mil did not go crazy on the price of the dress but there colors where what bothered me. my mom wore black and mil red. is it just me or what. i was really upset about my mom wearing black, like it was a wake not a wedding. but that was just me

No my dress cost the most...there was no battiling for attention that day. My mom wore a rose pink and my MIL wore black.

The back of the gown you posted is basically what the back of my MIL's first gown looked like. And, it had beading that started at the back of the knee, and then went down and around the 'train'...

She's such a psycho...we had to fight with her to even get her to show us the gown. She just kept saying 'I want everyone to be surprised when I walk down the aisle'

Yeah, my Mom said she was going to have the train cut off and ordered the gown in ivory and gold (the beading would have been in gold) but it was still too light. And she also said the same thing about wanting everyone to be surprised when she walked down the aisle But for her to not even want to show you the gown is ridiculous - like if she was the bride!!

My MIL spent more on her dress then i spent on mine. She wore a pale blue dress that i thought was going to show up as white in the photos but it didn't.

My dress wasn't very expensive only $800 but my mom and MIL both spend about $500 on their dresses. They both actually wore Mon Cheri dresses but not the same one. I was shocked at how expensive MOB MOG dresses are. I can see how if a bride has a reasonable priced wedding gown someone could come close to spending that much.

Both of their dresses cost less than mine, but my mom came close. I think when we went shopping for my gown she didn't realize how expensive they would b so she set me a $1500 limit, though she probably would have gone up to $2000 if I pushed it. It turnd out that my gown cost $1200. When we went shopping for her dress, it was an even bigger shock how much they charge for MOB dresses. She did try on gowns that were more expensive than mine, but she felt too guilty to spend more on her dress than she had on mine. I didn't really care how much she spent because I loved my gown no matter how much it cost and I wanted her to lover hers too. I think her dress wound up being like $800, and she loved it and looked fabulous in it. My MIL bought her dress in Bloomies and I think it was $300. I was a little annoyed that she bought a creme colored dress when I was wearing ivory, but I got over it pretty quickly. As long as she was happy with the dress I didn't really care.

MIL.

Her comment to justify such things, which I've probably vented about 100 times on here, was 'Well, you had to buy your dress on a budget and I only get a dress like this once every decade or so.'

I'll let that speak for itself this time.

Neither dress cost more than mine, although my mom's cost more than many bridal gowns.

While my MIL's gown was less expensive, it was a huge ball gown...she had it custom made for her in purple, and it was the wrap around style. When I commented to her that it looked like a bridal gown style, she nonchalantly said, 'oh, it was a bridal gown.' Everyone said they couldn't tell when she had it on, but I knew, and it bugged me!
