Calligraphy dilemma: Update - thanks mv1003 - they are done! And by hand...yeay! With PICS!

Here they are...so sorry for the blurriness, these were taken with the camera, not the scanner.

My whole set going out:

An outer envelope all set to go (with calligraphy!):

Blurry pic of the invite I sent to myself and fi (we live in sin LOL):

An example of an inner envelope:

Re: Calligraphy dilemma: How bad is it to run the invites through the printer?

I did it for my brunch invites they honestly don't look that great. For my wedding invitations I'd just handwrite them in my best print or script if I couldn't get a calligrapher. Just do them with a nice pen, and take your time.

Re: Calligraphy dilemma: How bad is it to run the invites through the printer?

I would prefer to see one hand written (even if not calligraphy) over getting the computer printout, JMO

Most wedding invites I have gotten recently have been printed on a computer. I doubt anyone will even notice or care.

Put them through the computer and be done with it.

JMO- if people care or notice they have way to much time on their hands....

My sister's went through the computer, they looked lovely.

Re: Calligraphy dilemma: How bad is it to run the invites through the printer?

I would say put them through teh computer instead of handwriting- I think it looks much neater......

My sister had them hand done in the script of her invite and a friend put them through the computer in the same font- it was hard to tell the difference!

Re: Calligraphy dilemma: How bad is it to run the invites through the printer?

I do have the font of the invite downloaded (Citadel script)...my only concern is that my envelopes are embossed with tiny flowers, so I guess I have to test them...
My handwriting is OK, definitely not great, so that's a concern too...UGH!

Re: Calligraphy dilemma: How bad is it to run the invites through the printer?

I printed mine out on the computer and used a fancy script font. It looked much better than if any of us had handwritten them. I have received 4 wedding invites in the past year and can honestly say that I do not remember if any were handwritten, labeled or printed.

Re: Calligraphy dilemma: How bad is it to run the invites through the printer?

Bad....

This why...

For my shower, my mom and sister could not decide on invitations. When they finally got them, it was too late to have addressed by the stationary place. So instead, they put them in the printer.

Complete disaster. Everything was fine until they got mailed back. For some reason, the envelope was too thick or something. So while they looked fine, the printer never sealed the ink to the envelope. So after they were mailed, the ink ran off of the envelope. My mom had to call everyone to make sure they got them.

Agree! I know this is horrible but who really notices or cares. I just rip it open to see the date and make sure if I can go or not! I don't recall noticing if it was done on a computer or not. Let us remember- WE are the only ones obessed about the details- not anyone else

Re: Calligraphy dilemma: How bad is it to run the invites through the printer?

I think it's better than a label (*ducks*)

I would do a test. see if it smudges and sticks to the paper and to check the embossed flower situation.

But overall, I think it's fine and will look beautiful (as long as you test it first though. )

Re: Calligraphy dilemma: How bad is it to run the invites through the printer?

I am having them done by a calligrapher who is running them through her printer. They look great!
I think it's fine as long as you don't get a paper jam and use a nice font.

Re: Calligraphy dilemma: How bad is it to run the invites through the printer?

I printed mine out with nice fonts that match everything else that is printed and put them on clear labels. I think they look just fine and very neat... better then anyone in my house could have hand written then. Don't stress over this small issue and do whatever you can to send out your invites

Re: Calligraphy dilemma: How bad is it to run the invites through the printer?

My Dad did them for me on his laser printer. They looked great. Small tip though, don't get lined envelopes because they can be too thick for the printer to run them through easily.

Re: Calligraphy dilemma: How bad is it to run the invites through the printer?

not bad at all!! my friend did them for her wedding and they came out beautiful, actually her envelopes looked better than the calligrapher's envelopes!! the calligrapher was not straight and the letters weren't always the same size. a computer can guaranatee straightness!!

it takes forever though, because you must feed the envelope through the printer one at a time. i am planning on using my computer/printer for my envelopes!!! i wouldn't even entertain the thought of a calligrapher.

I am having MAJOR issues since my friend did not come through and the calligrapher can't get them done until 3/26/05...I want to send them out tomorrow, is it really terrible and/or tacky if I run the envelopes through the printer? Would you think any less of an invite or would you think it was any less personal if this is how you got it? I need HONEST feedbakc please...thanks!

I think it's VERY okay to run them thru the computer. My FSIL's best friend did that for her wedding invites and looked great. Also, the 'calligrapher' that JT recommends uses a computer/machine! it's not by hand!!

I am sure they'll look great in the computer!!

My girlfriend got the Print Works program from staples and used that to address her envelopes and the script font came out awesome! It looked like it was done professionally
