We rented for the first year. We closed on our house about 6 weeks before our 1st anniversary.

I never understood why some people obsess over not having their magicial house all ready to go come their wedding day.Its ok if you have to rent ya know.
There is nothing wrong with it.In fact... renting for a year or two is sometimes better than buying a house or co-op for a year and then having to sell.

Re: How many people rented their first year of marriage?
We got married in June 2004, and just closed on a house - so we rented for a little less than a year after getting married. Thought it would be too stressful to buy a house and plan a wedding at the same time. We also wanted to take some time after the honeymoon to relax before stressing about finding a house. We got lucky though bc we found a house very quickly once we started looking.Best of luck to you!!

We rented for 10 months before our wedding and 6 months after, before moving into our house.

We are closing on May 2. So we'll have rented for approximately 19 months after we got married.

Re: How many people rented their first year of marriage?
We are renting a house and got married in Nov. We close in l a week and a half
I think renting a house was so much better then an apartment for us because now we know what we are in for as far as bills when we own our own home.It was very easy for us to save because our rent is only $1500 plus utilities

I agree. I hate when people say that renting is throwing your money away. DH and I have been renting for 8 months, and he was renting for a year before that (Before that he owned a condo) and we have saved plenty of money.

Re: How many people rented their first year of marriage?
We are renting for the first year and we hope to have a house by our first year anniversary. The way you save money - Right now we pay rent and that's it. If we had a house, we'd be buying a new front door, new fridge if it broke, new boiler, you'd want to wallpaper, re-tile, etc. I THINK and again, I don't know for sure, but I think you can save more in an apartment because you don't have any unexpected expenses (for the most part). And we weren't ready to make a commitment like that right away - to have thousands of dollars sitting in the bank to go to a new 'something' in the house. If something breaks, our landlord pays for it. We broke it out dollar for dollar, and it made sense for us to rent first and save money, plus we were thinking of leaving LI (now we're not!
). Good luck and just do what's right for you!
