Pros and Cons to having Wedding on Labor Day Wknd?

Pros and Cons to having Wedding on Labor Day Wknd?

My fiance and I are debating whether we should do our wedding next labor day wknd, but I'm wondering what the pros and cons to that are. Anyone have any negative experiences with doing their wedding on Labor Day wknd? We have alot of OOT guests so it would be nice for them to have that extra day off, but I'm also worried about the airfare, hotels being more expensive.

Pro- Extended weekend for OOT Guests
cheaper at some halls

Cons: Traffic on the east end of LI
People may have plans for the weekend
For honeymoon, airfare is usually more pricey around holiday weekends.

I picked a holiday weekend and our OOT guests were very happy!

I picked a holiday weekend too (Preseident's day/week but I strongly suggest save the date announcements. Many of my guests are leaving for vacations the next day and are glad I sent them.

STD's are a must for Holiday weekends and an added expense! That would be a con!

I'm getting married July 4th weekend. We decided on a holiday weekend because a lot of our guests (50%) are from out of town, we figured it would be easier. People could make a weekend out of it. The fact of the matter is, no matter what date you pick it may be inconvenient for people. Pick whatever works best for you, and people will come. Just make sure to send out save the dates early enough so people don't plan weekend getaways or vacations.

Holiday weekends are fine for me but everytime we have to go to someone's wedding on a holiday weekend by FH COMPLAINS! I know some people don't like it. So you can go either way...

My wedding was Sunday night of Labor Day Weekend. Hotels are not more expensive so long as you block rooms. If you have more than 5 people (or 10- have to double check) flying, you can also get a discount code on American Airlines (they will get between 5-10% off price of the ticket depending on how many people are flying). The same is true for rental cars.

We had everybody we wanted to there, and nobody complained to us...actually everybody who commented thought it was a great way to end the summer. You should definately send out save-the-dates if you do it...and you can't be upset if a few people already have travel plans.

I am getting married on Labor Day (Monday) and we are definitely sending out Save The Date's, you have to.
If $$$$ is an issue, you can get a break which helps quite a bit.

FH and I have choosen Labor Day weekend, and I agree completely w/ the above. Reguardless people may have plans, but it is most likely for them to plan for a holiday weekend. STD a must!

A lot of people plan long weekends around labor day, so you may have a hard time with rsvps, which may create a problem with your hall minimum.

Mine is the same day as yours!! I was thinking to send out the STD's after the holidays, the first of the year.

We are getting married next Columbus Day weekend and we have a ton of OOT Guests and when we told them they were thrilled because they don't have to take any extra time off. Also I went a head and blocked off rooms at a hotel (which doesn't cost me anything) but your guests will recieve a group rate and the prices won't go up because of the holiday.
