NWR: Daylight Savings Time (2 Hours)????

Is it true or just rumors?

They were thinking of chaning daylight savings time to reflect a two hour change instead of a one hour change....

That's absurd! We're the only country that does this to "save" daylight...don't they realize that a two hour change means that the sun won't come up til 9am!!!!!

Re: NWR: Daylight Savings Time (2 Hours)????

I don't know about the length of daylight savings time being extended, but I do believe that they passed that daylight savings time will start 4 weeks earlier, and end the first Sunday in November. If I remember correctly, that is to go into effect in 2007.

Re: NWR: Daylight Savings Time (2 Hours)????

I haven't heard about the 2 hour thing but I did hear that there is a bill in congress to extend Daylight Savings Time by a few weeks. They think it will help conserve energy.

Re: NWR: Daylight Savings Time (2 Hours)????

Even if it were true, we are in daylight savings time now...we would still only go back one hour to standard time this fall......could you imagine if it were true? It would stay light out past 10:00pm in the summertime!! That would be cool

Re: NWR: Daylight Savings Time (2 Hours)????

In 1990, they experimented with Double Daylight Time, when the clocks went ahead by two hours, instead of the usual one hour.

Also in Alaska, during part of they year they observe DST where there is a difference of 2 hours. The remainder of the year they remain at Standard Time.

Re: NWR: Daylight Savings Time (2 Hours)????

Towards the end of July they passed legistlation to extend DST by 2 months. It will last from 2nd sunday in March through 1st Sunday November. It is a means to conserve energy. One positive will be that in the Fall it will extend past Halloween and Election Day giving more light in the evening.

P.s. this only begins in 2007.

I didn't hear that. I heard that they were shortening it to Nov - March instead of Oct - April

Re: NWR: Daylight Savings Time (2 Hours)????

I just heard they are extending it...not the 2 hour thing.

They want to extend, not shorten. A lot of people are concerned because in the Winter months children may be waiting for the bus in the dark.

That would be "standard time". "Daylight savings time", which is currently from April through Oct., would be lengthened two months (making it begin in March and end in Nov.) thereby shortening "standard" time to Nov-March.

Re: NWR: Daylight Savings Time (2 Hours)????

August 8, 2005 Update: President Bush signed into law the Energy Policy Act, which extends Daylight Saving Time (DST) by four weeks from the second Sunday of March to end on the first Sunday of November. Extended Daylight Saving Time will begin in March 2007.

I read about it with my students. It's true.

If they move back the time by two hours it will be lighter much earlier, not much later.

Re: NWR: Daylight Savings Time (2 Hours)????

I heard about this a few months ago. The # 1 reason I heard they wanted to do it is because they need to sunlight to help farmers with the produce which, in turn, affects the economy. I think it is also because they need to sun for energy
