How Do You Get A Conter Offer From Your Current Job
I really like my current job however I am severely underpaid.I have a few interviews coming up and I am hoping for job offers.
What I am wondering is once I have an offer from another company how do I present it to my boss that I would like to stay with the company and request they match my outside offer.
Suggestions or if you have had experiences with this please let me know.

I'm not sure you actually ask for a counter offer, at least not in writing (I would definitely not put that in writing!)My company has a policy that they will not counter offer if you resign, but I have heard of it happening with a handful of extremely talented people.

That is what I did. I asked and the looked into, but unfortunately they didn't have it in the budget so I left.

You have to make the decision if you would actually leave if they didn't give it to you. You have to be willing to take this chance.Secondly, I would gather the data about your job from reputable companies and present it in a professional way. I would preface the conversation by saying you believe you are underpaid for your skills and your position and would like to discuss comp. Maybe after you present it you could suggest a gradual increase say over a few quarters to appeal to their budgeting.
I wish you luck.

I'm in the same position right now. If I take the other job, I am going to meet with my boss and say I am leaving, and a large factor is salary. Then it's up to them if they offer more for me to stay.

Re: How Do You Get A Conter Offer From Your Current Job
At my previous job they told me to wait a few weeks. They came back to me and said, not enough money in the budget (State of NY), so I left. But then I go on to find out they hired a replacement for me $20,000 more than I was making. Hmmm...no money??? Right...anyways....At the job I'm at now, I wanted a raise as well. I went right to the big boss and said it flat out that I was underpaid came to him with all my accomplishments all lined out and what I've done for the company since I was hired. He was very impressed and gave me the raise and a bonus on the spot. I would go in there with all your information. What you've done, what more you can do, what someone else would be making in this position, I would also hint that you have 'other options', that makes them alittle nervous.,etc.
