Re: Am I making a mistake???
Ali- my honest opinion is...you should get one! You can get one for fairly cheap in consideration of everything else that the wedding costs...and one day you may want to show your children and grandchildren---Even if you watch it once a year-it is worth it...there will be people on that video that will not be around forever and you will want to cherish the memories of them!
If your budget allows, I would get one!

Re: Am I making a mistake???
See if you can get something basic... even unedited. I didn't even think about not getting one. I would have loved to have seen my parents' wedding on video, but it wasn't available to them 40 years ago. We're lucky we have something to keep on tape that we can watch again and again to relive the day. I'm afraid you might regret it. My guy is charing 1500. In the grand scheme of things, I don't think that's a lot of $$ to have a lifetime of memories. My MOH wasn't going to have a videographer, and then decided pretty close to the wedding to have one, and she said she's SO happy she did. She watches it over and over! Obviously, it's up to you, but just make sure you don't have any regrets that you can't change after the day.

Re: Am I making a mistake???
We aren't having one professionally done, we are setting up our own video camera at the ceremony. After that, I am sure there will be plenty of people wanting to play filmaker for a little while!

Re: Am I making a mistake???
I debated this too... and I am on a very low budget, but after seeing samples, I knew that I not only wanted one, but i NEEDED one. i want my children to be able to see 'us' on our wedding day, to be able to relive the memories of my father walking me down the aisle, etc. etc. Those moments are so special... and when those people are gone, I feel like I can relive those special moments. My videographer is FANTASTIC... by far the best I've seen. AND he was affordable. FM if you want info...

The way I see it, years from now when you are watching your video and reliving those memories and maybe even sharing them with your children, and grand children you will never say I regret having gotten this video, but if you don't get it, you may very well regret it.If you can swing it, I say get it.

Yes - it's like that for us, too...
Plus - we wanted to see all the things that we aren't going to get a chance to see. It's like hiring an extra pair of eyes or something.

Re: Am I making a mistake???
FH was dead set against it. Then he realized there will be a lot of things going on that day he (and I) won't see UNLESS we have a video. As one example, FH is arriving with his BM at the ceremony by boat. I won't be around to see his arrival, just as he won't be around to see mine.

We aren't getting a videographer and both do not think it is necessary and will not regret it.

Re: Am I making a mistake???
I didn't get one and I don't regret it. I have so many pictures and we had a family friend use our DVD camera to tape some of the cool stuff during the reception. My DH did not want a videographer and I respected his wishes. I have so many pictures and my homemade DVD to keep me happy.

Re: Am I making a mistake???
Yes, I think you are. I can't imagine not getting one. I think the people who are dead set against it are that way because they fear being on camera, or don't want big clunky equipment in the middle of their dance floor. But many of the good videographers now use small digital cameras and you won't even know they are there. Also, editing techniques have changed and nobody uses cartoon editing techniques, or cheasy effects. (The good videographers don't anyway)It's so awesome to be able to look back on my brother's wedding video and see my mom who passed away having a great time, or my grandmother and aunt who passed.
Think how great it will be for your kids to be able to see Mommy and Daddy on their wedding day! Pictures just don't do the day justice. there are special moments that sometimes photos miss.
most basic packages start under $1500, you just have to shop around.

Re: Am I making a mistake???
Also consider getting a package that just gives you the raw footage, and maybe later on when alll the expenses of the wedding are over you can have it edited.

Re: Am I making a mistake???
There is no way I wouldn't get one - it's the only way I'll be able to see everyone walk down the aisle! Plus, one day I'll want to see it when peolpe aren't around anymore...

Re: Am I making a mistake???
I don't know, it is up to you. I will tell you my sister didn't have one, but she did have a family member take video of the wedding, ceremony and reception. I LOVE watching it! Everyone looks so different now. A video gives you something pictures can't.Welcome New Vendors
