Did you 'pre-look' at gowns?

Or am I just a moron?!

I want to 'pre-look' at gowns in a bridal shop ALONE.

I have a very opinionated family, and I know that if I'm with them the first time I look at gowns, they'll be TELLING me what I like, not asking.

Does this make sense? Did anyone else do this?

I'm not one to flip through magazines looking at dresses...I think I'll get a lot more out of it if I see them in person.

Re: Did you 'pre-look' at gowns?

it makes sense if that is the way your family is....

only you know them the best and if that is going to be something that will bother you (understandably so) then you should go on your own or with someone that you can trust to be calming, understanding and not make you crazy.

but give it a try-- even when you go shopping for real you should try your best to make it best for you and easy for you to look stress free b/c it's supposed to be such a fun experience!!

Good luck!!!

Re: Did you 'pre-look' at gowns?

I didnt have that option, my mom said the first dress visit she wanted to be there. She wanted that special bonding time I guess.

On the 3rd dress shopping trip my dad came as well. I wanted to because they each had a different style they wanted me in and I was trying on dresses left and right. It was not a fun trip

I don't think you're nuts at all, I think its the actually a great idea

Re: Did you 'pre-look' at gowns?

you should bring an LIW bride with you.
That way you're not tech. alone, but they can sympathize with what its like ot bring the family/BP to the dress searching appts.

Re: Did you 'pre-look' at gowns?

Well I didnt go by myself. , but took only ONE bm.. not my mom, not fmil.. not sister (moh) noone but one BM..
and it made the process sooo smooth...
I just bought my gown on the spot (3rd dress) and took it to my moms to show her when it came in..
so i 'kind of' prelooked haha

Re: Did you 'pre-look' at gowns?

My Mom will be seriously offended if I find THE gown without her.

So I guess I'm just looking for what styles look OK on me?

Re: Did you 'pre-look' at gowns?

I've gone a few times by myself ...only because I have a really specific picture of what I want in my head and I don't want to drag everyone around with me. But if I find something I really like I'll take all my bm's with me for their opinions.

Re: Did you 'pre-look' at gowns?

I actually thought about doing that today, I was going to be out by Smith Haven mall and thought about calling the Macy's bridal salon there... but I've been going with my mom and she's been pretty good about things, so I decided to just wait until I could go with her.

I kind of like the idea of going alone... but I also feel like half the fun of dress shopping is sharing it with people.

Re: Did you 'pre-look' at gowns?

I don't think you're nuts at all. You know your family best and this is YOUR gown. It should be what YOU like. Not that you family's opinion doesn't matter, but at least if you 'pre-look', you can go back with family and have a head start on them. Before they bombard you with critiques, you'll already know what YOU feel looks good!

Go for it!!!!

Re: Did you 'pre-look' at gowns?

I don't find anything wrong with going alone. You can get an idea of what style dresses you like then you can go back with family .
