Re: What is an acceptable amount to give as a wedding gift?

I don't think I've ever given less than $100 per person. If I wasn't attending and was only giving a gift then maybe I would give between $50 and $75 per person. DEFINITELY nothing less.

Same. And it also depends on the person who's wedding it is too. Obviously I'm going to give more to a family member or close friend.

Re: What is an acceptable amount to give as a wedding gift?

honestly i think it depends on which state you attend the wedding in, if its a sit down dinner, a very formal affair, a buffet style reception. Plus how close you are to the Bride and Groom.

IMHO i think going to a NY wedding, on a saturday nite, for a sit down dinner should warrant at least 150 dollars per person. Maybe to some people this is cheap, to others outrageous.
If i knew it was a very expensive venue like say i duno, carltun on the park, or Atlantica if i had the money i would give 200 per person. This is just my opinion.

Re: What is an acceptable amount to give as a wedding gift?

It defin depends on what type of wedding it is and where it is ...see we have somewhat of an advantage because we price so many places .

you defin have to cover your plate so i say 100 each

we're going to this black tie wedding in nov and we have to give them 500

Re: What is an acceptable amount to give as a wedding gift?

You relation to the bride and groom does also factor in like the other girls said. I'm SURE I'll be giving my sister more than the $100 per person

Thank god for you girls!!

My friends are crazy. Most of them give $50/person, OR they buy a teapot off a registry.

Re: What is an acceptable amount to give as a wedding gift?

before our wedding, dh and i didnt go to a wedding with less than 300 in the envelope. however, after seeing what the standard gift is, we will now be going to a wedding with a different amount.

people who are not in the wedding planning process have no idea.
it is sad. a lot of people did not cover their plate at our wedding!

Re: What is an acceptable amount to give as a wedding gift?

FH and I would never give less than $300 - but obviously for a cousin or something like that we would give more

but covering your plate at even the least expensive place - is AT LEAST $125 a person if you consider tax and gratuity. . . i mean tax and gratuity added $45 a plate!!!! at least in my package it did!!!

Re: What is an acceptable amount to give as a wedding gift?

Fh an I always try to cover our plate (we think all the places are $100 per person)

Now that we are planning our wedding we try to put more in the envelope depend on the person.

Re: What is an acceptable amount to give as a wedding gift?

i would say $150/per person is about right- someone who is closer will obviously get more!

Re: What is an acceptable amount to give as a wedding gift?

I agree with everything here...depends on the wedding, depends on the relation, depends on the state!!! However, I usually try not to give less than 100 pp.

Re: What is an acceptable amount to give as a wedding gift?

There are so many factors included that would depend upon your gift...

- the relationship between the Bride/Groom and yourself.
- how cheap OR how generous they are with gifts for you or your FH.
- where the wedding is.
- what day of the week AND day or night.
- your financial situation, cause honestly you don't wanna give more than you can afford even if what you give doesn't cover your whole plate. Cause if someone gets married somewhere who is just an accuaintance and their plates are like $250/pp you can't be expected to cover that plus tax, . .

I guess those are just some things to consider when deciding your gift amount.
