NWR: Small airplane crashed into apartment building in NYC... Update

York and 72nd St!! There's a fire now in the building... it hit the 20th floor. I'm hearing it on CBS 880.

CBS 880 is said earlier it appeared that it was a small commuter plane. NOW they're saying that the Fire Dep't said it was a chopper that was weaving in and out of buildings. And they say officials have no reason to believe terrorism was involved.

On East River! Yikes!!

So scary... memories of 9/11... but they said it was a small plane.

UPDATE: The eyewitness on CBS said the plane looked like it was out of control, maybe engine failure, before it crashed.

And CBS said that two people have died from the crash so far. They're not sure if they were in the plane or in the apartment building.

They are saying it was a fixed wing plane.

The FBI and Homeland Security Department are saying it does not appear to be terrorism related, just a terrible accident.

Drudgereport says it was a helicopter. 524 E. 72nd St.

watching it right now on CBS!!

too early to figure out what's going on...my FH just called me to find out what is on t.v. (since he's in queens -- and worries that NYPD might think it's something serious and mobilize them into manhattan!!!!)

i hate stuff like this--makes me so freaky he's a cop out there!

i'm thinking it was just an accident! i hope so!

CNN:

NEW YORK (AP) -- Police say an aircraft has crashed into a building on Manhattan's Upper East Side at 72nd Street and York Avenue. It is near Rockefeller Center.

There was no word on casualties.

Video from the scene shows at least three apartments in the high rise fully engulfed in flames.

It's unclear if it was a small plane or a helicopter.

it was just a helipcopter so most likely an accident

Looks like it was an apartment building - hopefully everyone was at work.

Its on the news now. They think it might even be a helicopter. Fires almost out.
