settle our feud ... heat related

DH thinks that our heat set at 66 degrees it totally normal and I am out of my mind for wanting it to be set to AT LEAST 68! I freeze in my own home. I understand the cost of heating the house BUT id like to refrain from becoming a human ice cube.

what do you set your heat to? Am I crazy? Is 68 'high' like he says?

HELP

Re: settle our feud ... heat related

66 is NOT warm when its 30 degrees outside. I think if you are home turn it up but if you not then lower it a little.

Re: settle our feud ... heat related

We've been setting ours to 65!

68 is normal though... You should def be comfortable in your new home though. Why does DH get to make the rules? Can you compromise on 67?

Re: settle our feud ... heat related

ours is usually at 65 also, DH and i argue about this all the time, b/c when it's 30 outside 65 doesn't quite cut it. i usually bump it up to 68 and he deals with it. i tell him just for a bit to take the chill off the house. can't argue with that!

Re: settle our feud ... heat related

We actually got a programmable t-stat b/c if we didn't have it, DH would have the heat at like 75 all day and night!

We have it set to 75 when it's 'on' but it's 'off' more than it's on - and when it's off we have it set to 67-68 so no, I do NOT think that is warm at all LOL!

ETA... I know 75 seems high but we put our gas and electric on the budget plans and the bills aren't too bad so until they go really high, I am keeping it warm!!!

Re: settle our feud ... heat related

my answer doesn't count because heat is included in the rent. but dh and i have the heat between 74 and 80. the bedroom doesn't get that much heat so i rise before i go to bed and dh lowers it when he goes to bed, but it stays b/w 74 and 80.

Re: settle our feud ... heat related

NYC law is 68 degrees and anything lower really is too cold! I own a home with tenants and I am not allowed to put the thermostat below 68 during the day and I think it is 60 for overnight, but that may be lower.

Hope this helps.

Re: settle our feud ... heat related

I woke up this morning and realized DH turned the heat off AGAIN last night - and the thermostat read 61!!!!!! I was frozen.

Normally, I set ours to 66 or 67. We are on the second floor of a house and I swear the people below us must have theirs set to 80. Because even when it's OFF, it feels warm. I never set the heat higher than 68.

Re: settle our feud ... heat related

When we leave for work in the morning we turn it down to 61... when I get home I bump it up to 68 and that's usually where it stays until the next morning! Yeah it's cold when I first get home from work, but then I get to snuggle on the couch with my fuzzy blanket!

Re: settle our feud ... heat related

we have a programable thermostat, so when we are not home we usually keep it at 65. and when we are home I LIKE to keep it at 72, and dh is usually ok with that, but last night it was really cold and dh turned it up to 74.

ETA: i think our gas and electric billa are cheaper in NJ, because we never go over $200.00 a month, doesnt matter if it summer or winter. Most the times we dont go voer $160.00 a month
