Childcare Question?

We are expecting our second child in Aug and I am very concerned about what to do when I go back to work. Our son is currently in a daycare(preschool) and for me to put both of them in that center it would cost me $2,250/mth. Does anyone have any suggestions for placing 2 children? We are moving to Babylon in July and I dont know where to begin.

Re: Childcare Question?

I don't really have an answer ofr you. The cost of childcare is ridiculous on LI. It almost feels as if you are working just to pay for it. The only suggestion I have is to check the school district. Since your son will be in preschool, maybe they have one that would be free of charge. If not definately shop around, I am sure htere are places who will give you a 2nd child discount. Good Luck.

Re: Childcare Question?

Have you looked into live-in nannies?

I know that they are also expensive, but I think you can get away paying less with them, since they don't have to pay rent...

Just a suggestion, I don't know from experience.

Re: Childcare Question?

This is NOT an easy situation. You may want to met with an accountant or financial planner (even if it costs a bit) and run all of your numbers. At this point, it MAY be costing you to work. It is hard to run the numbers yourself because very often we just use our salary, but there are tax considerations. Sometimes by stopping work, or only working p/t you and your DH fall into a new, lower tax bracket and thus, actually do better than working + paying childcare expenses. Also, consider the fact that your commute cost will be gone, plus you have work for a business-only attire place, the cost of cloths/dry cleaning also becomes much, much less. Again, these numbers are really hard to run yourself.

Re: Childcare Question?

Thanks! Yeah, I have considered not going back to work. I will have to check with my financial planner again and see what she says.
