NWR Welbutrin????
Anyone take this? FH is taking this to quit smoking. Well, for the past two days he has been very moody and irritable. Just wanted to know if anyone takes this and what side effects you have experienced. Thanks!

Re: NWR Welbutrin????
FH took this and he was not moody at all. I actually liked him better when he was on that lol. I can deal with him better. Call your doctor and see what they say. He shouldn't be moody at all. Good luck. I hope everything works out

I ahve not taken it but I have heard that can happen I would call his doctor right away and let him know he is having these problems. My sister and brother both quit using chantix (sp?) and had little to no side effects

Re: NWR Welbutrin????
i asked my doctor about it and he said NOT to take it, and this is coming from a doc who each and everytime gives me a long speech about quitting. Welbutrin does cause mood swings and also can cause severe depression. I had also asked my gyno about welbutrin since she brought up quitting to me and she also strongly advised against taking welbutrin and to try something else. After being on depo-provera a few years ago, i dont take the chance with things that say can cause severe depression and horrible mood swings. I always said its a small percentage so won't happen and let me say that i wish i had never taken depo-provera and unfortunately it was a shot that lasted months, so after those few months i was glad it was out of my system
this is an anti-depressant and years later they said it can also help with those who want to quit smoking. It helps those with a chemical imbalance such as bi-polar.
I also know there was a problem with some who had suicidal thoughts on this drug.
here is info from a site regarding some side effects:
First off, the most common Welbutrin side effects are often dry mouth, tremors, anxiety, loss of appetite, agitation, dizziness, headache, excessive sweating, increased risk of seizure, and insomnia. Agitation or insomnia is most obvious shortly after starting on the drug.
You may find yourself in the 18.6% of patients suffering from insomnia who take Welbutrin (bupropion is the generic scientific name). Two percent stop Welbutrin because of insomnia and agitation. On the other hand, you may find yourself in the 19.8% of patients who experience sleepiness instead of insomnia.
Welbutrin side effects can also included mania and psychosis which is when your thought and perception become severely impaired. You may experience hallucinations, hold delusional beliefs and paranoid delusions, suffer from personality changes and experience disorganized thinking.
There have also been rare cases of Welbutrin side effects to include significant liver damage. In a German study, five cases of pancreatitis with clinical symptoms such as abdominal pain, and anorexia have been reported. (These Welbutrin side effects were reversible after patients stopped taking the drug.)
Welbutrin side effects can also include dose dependent high blood pressure and heart attack.
Painful erection has also been found among Welbutrin side effects, but these were few cases. Warnings say immediate treatment is necessary, because the untreated patient may lose his possibility to have erections totally. Yikes!
Cases of hair loss in patients taking Welbutrin is 0.1 to 1%. Although the incidence is low, it cannot be ruled out as a potential cause for the hair loss. (The only way to establish a direct relationship, is to substitute a different antidepressant.)
Edema (fluid retention) has been reported in 1% of patients taking Welbutrin.
'Does Welbutrin react negatively if taken with other drugs?'
The serious Welbutrin side effects can also increase when the drug is taken with other medications. Warnings say to study the packing insert carefully and ask your prescribing physician in any case of doubt.

Thanks for your input. I guess everyone tolerates certain meds differently. He has been taking this for two days so maybe it's in my head and he is just pissed about quitting smoking. Who knows.

I don't know why his Dr. didn't give him Chantix. He said he preferred Welbutrin over Chantix. I don't know. I'll see how he is for the next week or so.

I've heard some pretty awful things about Chantix as well.
I took Wellbutrin a long time ago. Lost 32 lbs and felt great. It all depends on the person.

well they say these were just a few cases not a large percentage so i wouldn't worry about that. The main effect people suffer from is anxiety, mood swings, depression and that sort of stuff

I've also read reports of people committing suicide out of nowhere with absolutely no history. Very scary.

ETA: here is what it says
Some concerns are growing about Welbutrin side effects due to the fact that they have included cases of suicidal thoughts and attempts in children and adolescents with depression.

I stopped taking it because I was to loopy....
I stopped for a week before my 21st birthday like a dumbass LOL .. What worked for me was the patch and bitting on bar stirrers.. I still smoke though because on my 21st birthday I got wasted so that was just a dumb move on my end. (Drinking+Smoking= Hand and Hand to me) And I have no drive to stop yet.
Some women at my job use the inhaler and the lozenges and have quit for over 2 months already!!!

So they are just concerned about suicidal thoughts/attempts in adolescents? Or is it anyone who uses it?
