I got an estimate from NY tent for $30,000 not including food!! My food estimates were around $40,000 from oven lovin which included all food and table & linen rentals and glasses and utensils.

... in that case, we'll get the tent w/ accessories, no food, no tables, no chairs, no guests... just the tent I'm shocked!!!
So much for my dream!

I am getting married at Vanderbilt Mansion in Centerport. Not the one in Oakdale. There is a not a inside there only a tent. I would check it out because it is beautiful. There is no grass to walk on and if it rains the walk ways and everything can be teneted as well. It is more expensive though.

I contacted Lessings earlier and they recommended VM but I couldn't get a hold of Carol... the # wasn't in service! This is the VM you're referring to right?

I had inquired at the Vanderbilt in Centerport, and they only do tented events, which was never really a thought in my head.
However, for many reasons I went, and they were def up there with a lot of the catering halls with just wanting to use the grounds. Then there was everything else i.e. the tables/chair rentals, food, alcohol, everything that came in the price of a regular hall.
This is JMO and my findings, some might be different.

My mom volunteers with the gardening and decorating at the VM. They have a website where you can get the # for Carol directly or if you live in the area stop by I know shes there pretty regular 'office' hours

i've got pics of NYBG in my album and the cost per person for 5/2007 was like $225/pp. catered by abigail kirsch though but i think when it's all said and done it's probably more like $250/pp... really expensive

I just wanted to offer my support & encouragement while you are in beginning stages of your planning. Much like you, when we first decided on a tented wedding we received some less than constructive advice & opinions. I am so glad that we did not take any negativity and nay-saying to heart.

IDon't shoot the messenger.... You aren't going to like this... I looked into this for my own wedding.

To rent a tent is a minumum of $5k. Just for the tent. That fancy lining you see in these tents... along the ceiling... that's an EXTRA $1-2K. Normal tents don't have that.

If you rent a private estate, they may not allow you to use the restrooms, so you need to rent port-a-potty's (this is not a joke). The nice ones will be another $3k for 1 ladies & 1 mens. And don't forget the site fee ($3-10K).

Then you have to rent tables, chairs,linens, etc... Its pretty much the most expensive way to go.

That being said, find a place that already has a tent. Atlantica has a tent over the back deck. But if you REALLY want that fancy ceiling liner, that's not included. It's an extra $3K.

It is gorgeous, but very expensive. Before we got engaged we were talking about an outdoor wedding... tents were expensive when I looked into it!

I didn't get a chance to look into the grounds for this but I'll do it during my next break from school!
