IDon't shoot the messenger.... You aren't going to like this... I looked into this for my own wedding.

To rent a tent is a minumum of $5k. Just for the tent. That fancy lining you see in these tents... along the ceiling... that's an EXTRA $1-2K. Normal tents don't have that.

If you rent a private estate, they may not allow you to use the restrooms, so you need to rent port-a-potty's (this is not a joke). The nice ones will be another $3k for 1 ladies & 1 mens. And don't forget the site fee ($3-10K).

Then you have to rent tables, chairs,linens, etc... Its pretty much the most expensive way to go.

That being said, find a place that already has a tent. Atlantica has a tent over the back deck. But if you REALLY want that fancy ceiling liner, that's not included. It's an extra $3K.

i called up a tent company and he said its between 750-1500 for a tent (i think he said something about 40x40 i could be wrong)

I think you need to watch Platinum weddings. What you are looking at with all the rentals is going to cost you way over 50K easy.

LoL I guess it depends on the # of guests. If XFINALLYX (Kimberly) is having a small wedding then she might be able to make it affordable.

Me, on the other hand, that's another story I'm still hoping to get in touch with the BM at the Vanderbilt Mansion - Centerport to find out about using their grounds, tent and facilities.

Kimberly, I'll FM you with the contact info for a few tent companies I've heard about so that you can compare quotes.

thanks so much!! we're having 50-60 people. its big enough for that many, a dance floor and we're having a buffet dinner so enough room for that. my FH is a manager at guitar center so we're hoping he can get some lighting for cheap but i have to admit, i want the tent to be pretty like those weddings. we're definetely gonna go with the japanese lanterns. i just dont know where to find them cheap. i think we'll most likely stick with this. every day keeps going by and i really want this wedding. so hopefully i'll get my wedding

i am with itslaurie. on this one. i had a tented wedding. it was expensive, but not anywhere near as much as people on here are indicating. the things that do add up are the rentals and the site fee if applicable (ours was at a vineyard and there was a charge).
it was also so much fun to plan! you get to do everything from a blank slate, unlike at a hall FM if you want more details.

i am not sure where people are getting such expensive quotes for tents. mine was under $3000 for the tent, dance floor, lighting, permits, etc. our tent came with windowedwalls, although we did not use them due to the nice weather. we opted out of the fancy liner, though that is an added cost.

This has been my experience as well. I went to look at a place three weeks ago, and when we were discussing budget, the wedding planner was like, 'it depends on what you want. I mean, last year a bride spent $6800 on her tent! Can you believe it?' Meaning, for every other wedding they'd had there, the couple had spent significantly less than $6800. Considering that you have total freedom in choosing a catering package and can really shop around with food/alcohol/cake/decorations, a tented wedding can definitely cost about the same as a banquet hall wedding.

I had 140 people. my catering was $65/head. I bought my own wine and liquor ($1500 TOTAL for liquor - you do the math!). rentals were approximately $30/person.
