Some of the girls may remember that I posted about my uncle a few months back. . . my uncle ( in his late 60s) was also diagnosed with lung cancer that had not spread. HE WAS NEVER A SMOKER! I find that so crazy. Anyway, he went to Sloan Kettering and they took GREAT care of him. . . they got it all out in one shot and this was in October. . . he is currently taking chemo pills and he is cancer free!! He is weak from the pills and the recovery but other than that he is okay! He even goes to work for a few hours each day!
Please FM me if you need to talk because i know how hard it is!! Sometimes, when you hear cancer . . . your mind just shuts off and you can't hear anything positive AFTER it. . . but hear MY positive story and find hope!![]()
Matilde -- bless your heart for sharing. All of these success stories have eased my mind a bit. We have been positive since day one, before we even knew it was cancer. I know she will be fine. She is the most pessimistic one out of all of us, but she is getting better now that we have a plan in place for treatment.
thanks again!

I will hold you to that once everything gets started. She has to do a brain scan and a stress test and then the chemo starts. I think that scares me more than the surgery.
Thanks again, Kerri!

That is totally understandable. The stress test should be fine, the chemo is usually the hardest part for friends/family to witness. It won't be easy, but it's neccesary, and we will all be here to help you through this difficult time.

Thank you. i don't know what is standard, but four rounds didn't seem like a lot to me... once every 20 days, then as soon as the fourth time is over, they are going to operate. But then again, I was totally cancer illiterate before this.
We've all braced ourselves for the chemo, the hair loss, the weakness, but we haven't spoken to her about it b/c she is very pessimistic as it is. I'm sure I will be a mess at some point! And I am so lucky to have you wonderful gals!

Don't let what you find on the internet get you down. A lot of websites give general information and basic stats without a personalized prognosis. Have faith in the surgeon...and in grandma. Keep praying for her, because it's obviously already working. Hold your head up high, and try to keep your strength even though it isn't easy at this time. I just went through the summer of hell with my grandfather (voluntary 2nd open heart surgery with various complications), and the only thing that got me through it was doing my best to stay strong. As a nurse, i think that is something that always helps patients. Being surrounded by other peoples strength when they may not have their own. I hope this helps, and please keep us all updated.
