Re: Official 'How to save money on your wedding' thread!
Thanks for keeping things in perspective. I agree with just about everything that was said. Before you spend a lot of $$$$ on gifts for the guests, think back to a wedding that you have attended and decide whether or not you really cared about the silly little gift that was at your seat. Also, thanks for the tip on the local florists, I am going to look into that before I check out any of the big LIW vendors.
I have the luxury of a larger budget, but that doesn't mean that we don't want to save $ where we can. Negotiate, negotiate, negotiate! So far, every vendor we booked has been willing to adjust their prices, even if it is just nominal.
Thank you and keep sharing!

Even with a bigger budget, the less expensively you do things, the more money you will have AFTER you are married. We used all of the money we saved on a down payment for a house and all new furniture!
Sooo worth it!

Re: Official 'How to save money on your wedding' thread!
Thanks for bumping! I think I was the 'lovely lady' that asked you to do so back in August ... I read it then but didn't print, but I am now!Things I am doing:
1 - making my own centerpieces. I decided that flower centerpieces, even though I was going to do cheap ones (gladiolas, $2 per stem) was not important. I am making candle ones that will cost me a total of $250 for 15.
2 - I am most likely getting silk bouts for the men. Real flowers get crushed when the guys are hugged and move around, wilt, etc. Fake ones will cost me $4 a piece, whereas the real ones would cost $12 a piece. I need 7, so this is a big savings I think.
3 - I am giving a donation in lieu of favors. I am not calling it a favor. It's instead of.
4 - I am making simple placecards. Not fancy, no placecard holders.
5 - I am buying cheap shoes, cheap veil, cheap jewelry, cheap tiara - hoping to get it all from tri-county.
6 - I only have one BM and a best man. I am thinking of having a ring bearer, but probably won't. I have a flower girl but she will only be 1.5 y.o. at the time of the wedding .. all of this equals less money I need to spend on gifts later.
7 - I am not making menus. They come with my RH.
8 - I am making my own programs, if I decide to make them at all. I am crafty and they will not take me long and they will cost very little.
9 - I am only paying for a photog to take the pictures and give me proofs. I will make my own albums later.
And I think of more things every day!

Re: Official 'How to save money on your wedding' thread!
You said everything perfectly!!! Everyone wants to have the wedding day of their dreams, me included, but I feel that no matter what your flowers look like you are going to have the best day of your life. Just think of our parents, most of them probably had church hall receptions. And they didn't think they needed anything more then that. I am lucky enough to have my parents pay for most of our wedding, but if they weren't and I was paying myself. There is no way I would go into total debt for it...my FH a different story, but I think most of the stuff people do is nuts! lol But to each his own....Thanks for posting!!!! Great idea!

This was the best thread I have ever read, I think my blood pressure has gone down significantly since reading this...it is very true to get caught up in the planning and the moment. This should be passed on forever!
