we are both half irish and i'm going from a very italian last name to FH's Irish last name.

I'm wearing a penny in my shoe and we're going to put an Irish blessing on the wedding program.

Other than that, I'm not sure what else to do, but I would love to incorporate more tradition into it.

I'm a 100% Irish Bride- but my family's been here for generations- father's side is from Galway, mom's side is from Co. Cork. FH is a mutt and I'm getting a very all-american last name. It's alright though- still have my irish first name!

I think with the six pence- you can tape it to the bottom of your shoe instead

I think we'll do either bagpipers a the church or an Irish bank at the CH- any suggestions for bands?

Thanks for all the ideas, I have the Irish wedding traditions book but didn't get much from it.
And I was listening to the irish wedding album this weekend and the songs were so beautiful but some rally sad, like My Son- god i cried my eyes out, hehe.

I got the Claddagh Ring pillow from Celebrations Boutique Inc on Hempstead Tpke in East Meadow. They had the whole set: pillow, candle, guest books, invitations, etc... When I get married I'll be Kelly Kelly!!

Michelle, I am thinking of Daughter of Mine too! It's a beautiful song... it's a nice waltz and easy to dance to!

I am also thinking about 'My Grandfather's Emigrant Eyes.' I will have the band change the words to 'My FATHER's Emigrant Eyes'. It's a beautiful song... basically, it's sung from the vantage point of a child thanking her/his father for the sacrifices they made for their children as an emigrant... and how the father's experiences in turn made the child the person they are today. it really is beautiful...a definite tear jerker.

I haven't decided if i want ot have the song as it's like coming from my dad to me (Daughter of Mine) or have the song as from me to him (Father's Emigrant Eyes). We'll see!

Also, ladies if your FH's Mom is Irish... 'My Son' is a popular Irish one for the mother/son dance. Andy Cooney sings it and I think a few others have done it too, so it would be easy to find on a CD somewhere.

Fh is dancing w/his Mom to this song.

I also have a song list w/many Irish suggestions that Celtic Cross gave us if anyone needs any other song ideas.

I'm Irish born and raised and got married in October. If you would like to see my Irish touches at my wedding, check out my review.

Our band was Gerry Finlay and the Cara Band who I can HIGHLY recommend. We had Pipers at the Church and our reception. My DH is 100% Irish but raised in NYC and he and his brothers wore kilts in the Irish National tartan. I also had chocolate truffles imported from Ireland for one of my favors.

I hope you all enjoy your wedding as much as we did

ETA: My DH's father and mother have passed away so he danced with his two sisters to 'My Old Man' which is a song by the Furey's.

Does anyone know if the president of Ireland will send a congratulatory letter like the Pres of the US and the Pope if you send an invite? If so do you know the address?

I never heard of such a thing.... that would be very cool! the website for the government of ireland is www.gov.ie

There are links to the president, prime minister, etc. perhaps there is some info. on the site that could help you.

I am sending out a LOT of invitations to our numerous family members in Ireland. i wanted to put the stamp on their reply card just as we would do here...

there is a link on the Irish post office site where you can order them and they'll send them to you! the post office website is in depth (post offices there handle a lot more than mail, many operate as banks, passport offices, etc.) but i think i was able to find the right info... here is the link:

I am looking for mother/son songs and father/daughter songs does anyone now any good website that has a lot of irish lyric songs.

Does anyone know the song the son sings to his mother - I heard it the other day but didn't get the name. He is thanking her for all she has done?

You may be thinking of 'My Son' although it goes from the perspective of the mother to the son. Andy Cooney, Pat Roper and Sonny Knowles have done recordings of it. Yesterday, someone posted a thread about it on BHB.

Also, we posted about mother-son songs and father-daughter songs on this thread a page or so back ;)

Also, check out regorecords.com and click on the Irish wedding link to the left and it will give you songs with lyrics and the option to order the CDs on line if your DJ doesn't have it.

My dad is taking a trip to Ireland in Sept. and he's going to get all my Irish stamps for the reply cards then. You can always send a relative the $ and have them pick them up or do what I'm doing too. What stinks is my sister did the same thing that I'm doing and most of the ppl. didn't even mail back the replys so she wasted the $ on the stamps.
