I'm nowhere near irish, but wish i was haha. my fi is 90% irish (mom's maiden name being kelly!) and i wanna incorporate some irish tradition in there (although i'm italian, german and greek, i dont care about my heritage honestly) we're definetely having bag pipers.. not sure for anything else besides some irish music at the reception. do you guys think its stupid if we have some irish traditions if im not irish? also, we're not having our ceremony at a church (i know i know, he doesnt want it there)

we're also having an african/safari themed wedding (although we're not african american at all! we love the heritage though) so i wanted to jump the broom, is that dumb? thanks for any info guys xo

My dad is taking a trip to Ireland in Sept. and he's going to get all my Irish stamps for the reply cards then. You can always send a relative the $ and have them pick them up or do what I'm doing too. What stinks is my sister did the same thing that I'm doing and most of the ppl. didn't even mail back the replys so she wasted the $ on the stamps.

Oh really... they didn't send back the reply???? Hmm. . . actually now that i think about it any time I RSVPed to a wedding over there I always just rang and said I was coming...there was never a reply card to send back. I think I am still going to do the stamps though... i need to try and keep track of everyone... and maybe i will have someone get the stamps when they're overor have someone mail them to me... might be easier than ordering.. .... just a new thought... will you have a copy of your invite ready so they could weigh it at the Irish post office to see how much it would be?

I went to the Irish Festival in East Durham this week to hear Celtic Cross play and I came across a candle vendor that makes really pretty personalized unity candles - very inexpensive!!

Hey girls I'm new to this thread but I'm sooooooooo glad one of my BM's clued me in to it!

FH is all Italian but I'm all Irish so we decided on an 'Irish Theme Italian Cusine' wedding!

I'd really appreciate any ideas or suggestions!

Oh and any tips on must do's in Ireland are welcome too! (We're honeymooning there! )

I'm an irish bride, everyone keeps suggesting to us to get Irish bag pipes-but my FH's uncle who was a fire fighter died on 09/11 in th WTC. When we went to his funeral, all we heard was bag pipes-it brings back too many bad memories, but I love all of your other ideas ladies and will surely be using them-if I can think of any I will post them.

i'm about half Irish - FH is everything but Irish... go figure!!

I'm having a bagpiper at the church as guests enter and leave the church. When I was in Ireland about 10 years ago I just remember the sound of the pipes made me well up and moved me. From then on I knew I needed a bagpiper at my wedding!!!

Okay girls I need some help!

For those of you who are incorporating some of your Irish heritage into your wedding, what are you doing or have done for favors?

I really wanted to do a small piece of irish crystal be it waterford, marquis, galway or shannon, but I can't find anything reasonably priced.

Any ideas? TIA!

Have you thought of any celtic ornaments. FOr a friends bridal shower we gave out ceramic shamrock ornaments.

As of know we are doing pint glasses - the crystal things tend to be very expensive and not all appreciate it

* We had the irish wedding blessing on the back of the programs
* We played the Irish Wedding Song at communion
* We presented the Virgin Mary with flowers
* We played 'Our Lady of Knock' (mom's favorite song)
* We played A LOT of Irish music (The Siege of Ennis went over really well)
* Irish blessing at dinner
* Six pence in my shoe
* My dad and I danced to 'Daughter of Mine' - there wasn't a dry eye in the house
* One song we played that meant a lot was 'Black Velvet Band' - my dad use to sing it to me at bed time.
* Claddagh unity candle holder - it was GORGEOUS - I'll try to post a pic.

If I think of anything else, I'll post it!

Where did you get the unity candle holder - it is gorgeous
I thought it was a 5 pence for the shoe??

Thanks! I got it here celtic treasures
But I found it cheaper somewhere in Port Jeff after I'd already bought it. It was pricey but it is real Mullingar pewter and I will use it again and again!

Yea I was looking into the shamrock ornaments but FH and I wanted to give out something that our guests might be able to actually use like a small dish/vase or something of that sort. FH isn't really big on the nic nack thing. . .
