We call it gravy if its with meat, like meatballs or sausage and sauce if its a plain marinara

I'm all italian...my parents say sauce and macaroni. My grandparents say gravy. My grandparents don't really say macaroni, they call the macaroni whatever the italian name for it is.

I am all Italian and I say sauce and macaroni. I started saying pasta sometimes to my non-italian friends because people thought I was referring to kraft mac and cheese ...haha.

My paternal grandma used to call sauce with meat-- gravy.

ETA: we were always 3:00 sunday dinner Italians growing up.... Gramps would bring the Italian bread from Queens and some fruit or nuts. My mom's side is off the boat from Naples, Dad's is Sicilian.

We say both actually. It's more gravy and macaroni though.

DH's family says sauce and pasta more.

My family is from Naples/Rome.
DH's family is from Sicily.

100% Italian here too. Both parent's from Naples. We say sauce and macaroni.
The word for sauce in Italian is salsa sp? (DIALECT) which means sauce. In dialect- neopolitan- macarun sp? means macaroni.

So on Sunday, we eat macaroni with sauce.

If we are having someting other than macaroni know to us as, ziti, penne, or rigatoni, we specify the type of pasta it is.. like spaghetti or fusilli.

LOL same here. only we are 75% Italian ;)
Only my gramma calls it gravy and it's funny how my mom is always correcting her..
