OMG

I can't believe that happened to you. This board is to help each other out with ideas for our weddings, or to talk or vent, and it is amazing how some people can use it to try and get a deal out of things we say. That is why I hate those topic's that say, how much are you paying for your wedding, or does your hall include ...., or something like that. Every hall does their own thing, and every bride gets different things thrown in. Whether you like it or not, that is the way it is!

TY ladies!! I am glad to know that you all are as upset as I am! I just wanted to also verify for some of you--that the thing that truly burns me...I did not give any personal information out to this person....no numbers as to what i'm paying per head or anything like that...didn't give my last name...nada. This person used my & FH's first names, wedding date, and location, JUST FROM MY BASIC PROFILE!! Can you believe it?!

I can't believe that we can't put our wedding dates & catering hall locations on our profiles w/o worrying someone is gonna name drop!!!!

Oh yeah, and for those that asked--BM and I are good. He figured it was a misunderstanding...it just seemed to weird to him that this chick knew my first name, date, and stuff. that's why he had to call and verify with me. (Soooooo embarrassing)

Well I am glad that it didn't a burn a bridge between you and your BM. I would've been irrate!!

It happens more than you think. My advice to all:

Do NOT post what you spend on ANYTHING.
Do NOT tell people what you pay per head.
Do NOT post your last name.
(the post on 06 about new last names makes me nuts - sorry but it cannot be safe on SO many levels)
Do NOT post where you or your FH works.

I am sure many people may think I am paranoid now but better safe than sorry.

SO TRUE! And if I could add

Do NOT post your first name

In your case, that's what they used...it's wrong to be so guarded but the alternative (having psychos call your vendors) is not better!!

Go back and erase all your posts where you wrote any so-called information like that and dont give all the info about your wedding day in your profile.

I'm sorry that happened to you. I try to always be very open, honest and helpful like you did but this makes me not want to be anymore!

You are right, we are all here to help eachother and I try so hard not to be 'secretive' with my info and tips b/c I want it to benefit everyone who needs help but I'm going to be much more careful now unfortunately b/c I feel like I have to be.

I'm really not surprised that this happened to you. I've heard of people doing this to brides that have the 'their' date booked at a hall or some other vendor they wanted and call that vendor to tell them the wedding was cancelled so that they could 'steal' the vendor. Very sad but drama does lurke on these boards.

You know another thought...

It's no secret that vendors lurke on these boards, it could have easily been a vendor who didn't like what you said and wanted you to know it. Now being a fellow Watermillie, I'd like to think that isn't the case, but you just never know.

wow Jenn--i didn't even think of that. how sad. i have a feeling i know who did it...as I have FM'd some ppl, and they responded...yet one particular one has yet to respond to whether they did it or not and hasn't said anything about the topic on the 07 boards. hmmm

Yeah, I thought of that later and like I said, though I'd like to think it wasn't you never know.

As for the non-responsive FM don't sweat it, maybe they aren't on and haven't read it yet?

as someone who has cancelled one of my own vendors, it's not as simple as just calling and saying it's off. you have to write an official, return receipt letter stating all your information and clearly stating you are cancelling the contract. you can't just say you're 'summerbride' and cancel a vendor. it was a big process

In lieu of this thread, I took a lot of Info off my profile. ...This is so nuts, and I am sorry you had to deal with it. Obviously whoever went to Watermill with this info. has little to no brains.
