While I think what Melissa said was harmless and rather true. (as we all know not just with wedding vendors but in general businesses are willing to do things for people who deal strictly in cash) I agree for her own sake she should have probably FM'd that bit of insight.

Did she think what she said was going to come back and haunt her? No.

Should she be able to say something and not have to worry that it's held against her? Yes.

But unfortunately, this is the real world and more unfortunately, there are people out here who will use any info they can to get what they want. Even if that means that they twist the words of what one person says. So lesson learned... Watch what you say and how much personal info you put up on here...

I've heard of people doing this to brides that have the 'their' date booked at a hall or some other vendor they wanted and call that vendor to tell them the wedding was cancelled so that they could 'steal' the vendor. Very sad but drama does lurke on these boards.

as someone who has cancelled one of my own vendors, it's not as simple as just calling and saying it's off. you have to write an official, return receipt letter stating all your information and clearly stating you are cancelling the contract. you can't just say you're 'summerbride' and cancel a vendor. it was a big process

I have cancelled a vendor and yes you're right, most of the time you have to send a certified letter cancelling the contract but there have been brides who've posted here saying their vendor called b/c they got a message saying they were cancelling. Thankfully the vendor followed up otherwise it could have been a disaster for the unknowing bride.

this is what i meant. i didn't mean for my post to sound like it was her fault. it wasn't at all. thank you for posting this.

i think the problem is that anything you post on here can be used against you. i think what this bride did was wrong, in saying she ws told she'd get a break in tax if she paid cash, etc., but we have to remember that there are people that will take everything to heart and run to their vendors to get their contracts changed b/c of what they read on here.

i try not to post what i paid for what b/c i don't need my vendors calling me and asking me why i 'quoted' someone on liw a price...so although it was not intentional and it was never specifically said that you will get a break, etc., its just that some newer brides will get confused. believe me, i was one of them. i thought we had to have the whole payment when we booked and i thought there were only 5 reception halls on LI.

just keep this in mind next time you want to post prices and what have you
