you guys would really have to shop around...sapphires are heavier than diamonds, so a one carat sapphire is smaller than a one carat diamond (is this right Sasha) I have been told that ceylon sapphires go for about $1,000 per carat, which is smaller than a one carat diamond, so you'd have to buy a bigger sapphire for it to equal the size of a one carat diamond...
is this right...I think it is...

$1000 per carat is wholesale for a great quality stone. Retail it's a lot more. For example, the ring below is $7,350 at my job and it is a 1.76ct oval aqua and 2 round sapphires totalling 1.84ct.
As far as ct. weight...it's all the same. So a ne ct. diamond will be the same size as a one ct. sapphire or colored stone. It's all about the depth of the stone and the way it's cut. But a diamond will always look bigger (a round one anyway) because it's white...hope that helps!
