Hey ladies! I'm another pluz sized newbie...Question- I really don't want to dress shop yet because, as we all want, I would like to lose some weight first. However, I don't want to wait too long for fear of not having enough time to order the dress. Have you all had any experience with getting a dress and then having to have it significantly altered? For example, if I were to lose 50lbs, will the dress be able to be altered without losing it's design? I haven't got a clue. Thanks!

I think the alterations vary by dress, i was told mine could be taken in up to 2 sizes, I heard other brides say 1 and some say 3. I think it really depends on the complexity of the gown. You still have a good amount of time, but it would probably be a good idea to try on some gowns and get the opinions of the seamstress as far as alterations and how long it will take to order the particular dress you want. If it will only take a few months, then I'd hold off and go back closer to the wedding date

Yup, I too wanted to wait, but in the end I haven't lost a pound! (My own personal battle!) I am glad I went shopping, I found the perfect dress and it can be altered within 2 sizes (if I lose the weight)
You should take a look around nd see what looks good on your body type. You'd be surprised how well a wedding dress can make you look! GL!
