Cocktail hour starts at 6:30
The reception is at 8pm

I have a very large gap inbetween...my ceremony is at 2, and the cocktail hour starts at 6:30...nobody has given me a problem about it so far!!!

me too... 1:45 and 7pm ... people see it as free time to go home

I have a long time in between also -
Church is at 2:30 and the cocktail starts at 7PM. The church wouldn't do a mass later than 2:30.

ceremony at 3 and the cocktail hour is at 6 . The manager at the hall said that if guests show a little early that it would be fine.

Me too.. I think longer is better than 1 or just 2 hours, b/c then they don't have time to go home..but with 3 or 4 they do...(or most anyway)

Reception 7:30

My hall is setting up an area for anyone who comes straight from the Church to the reception that will have coffee, soda, crudite display - just a little something for people who made long trips.

my ceremony is at 2 and my CH is at 7. 2 was the latest time i could get on that day for the ceremony. it is a big gap, but there wasn't too much i could do about it. my family and my fh family are going to have little gatherings in their hotel rooms for people. it will work out. a lot of people will go home, but they are local so it isn't a big deal. i'm glad because i have enough time to take pictures and get that all done before the cocktail hour.

i have a REALLY long time in between. My ceremony is at 2:30pm and my cocktail hour doesn't start until 7:30pm! I know people will have a problem with it, but someone will always have a problem with something!

Also, I figure that people can come to the church casual and then go home and get dressed. I know that I like it much better that way when I have to go to a wedding!

CH begins at 7:30 in Long Island
Reception is from 8:30 - 1:30

Reception from 8pm-1am

The church is in Queens and the reception is in Nassau. I figure the ceremony will be about an hour in total. So by 4pm we'll head out to Old Westbury Gardens for pictures and have family meet us at the hall around 5:30/6:00 for pictures before the cocktail hour. FH's aunt offered to have people come back to her house after the ceremony since she is halfway between the church and LI. I've been to plenty of weddings with a large gap. Some people go to the church and then go on their own to get ready or whatever before the reception and some people only go to the reception. Don't worry about what they'll do - you're priority is what you will do.
