Re: Would you wear a red dress to a wedding?
I don't think there is a problem with it. I wore a red dress to two different weddings and no one flinched. Both brides loved the dress and it wasn't flashy. I agree it is the style that dictates how upstaging it is.

Re: Would you wear a red dress to a wedding?
I wear red all the time. - I have 2 colors in my 'formal' wardrobe, red and black. The only 'inappropriate' thing to wear to someone else's wedding is a wedding gown !!
And who cares if anyone is trying to 'upstage' me ?? They're NOT going to !!!!!

Re: Would you wear a red dress to a wedding?
I think it would be alright to wear a red dress. It's your day, you will get all the attention anyway!

Re: Would you wear a red dress to a wedding?
I love that dress. I would like to know where I can get one just like it. Also, my cuz wore a strapless red dress with a big slit up the sides and it looked good on her, and it was attention getting. I didn't mind though, I was the bride. I have her smack in the middle of one of our family pictures and it gets lots of comments. If I could ever get into a size 8 I would borrow it...

The dress is by Tahari and you can get it on the Nordstrom's website. It also comes in floor length and in black. I might get the black floorlength one myself.

Re: Would you wear a red dress to a wedding?
Jenn, thanks for the info...don't stress about the red dress. That dress pales in comparison to the one my cousin wore. It's sophisticated, not trashy.

Re: Would you wear a red dress to a wedding?
I have worn red to a wedding too. I noticed at my wedding most of the girls did NOT wear black and i loved it. I had girls there wearing purple, teal, red, tan, pink and nude colors.I felt the girls who wore the very low cut dresses got the most attention at my wedding - not anything to do with colors. I don't mind low cut but some of the dresses i was like WOW!
I find sequins to be more attention getting then red dresses.....but that is fine with me too
As long as people don't wear white.

Re: Would you wear a red dress to a wedding?
I have worn my red dress to a wedding.I don't feel that it takes away the attention from the bride. The bride is the one that stands out with her beautiful white dress and tiara/veil or flowers.
It's the brides day no one could take that attention away from her unless someone famous was there I think

Re: Would you wear a red dress to a wedding?
I think the dress is beautifal and elegant. Not too showy at all. I tried on (and almost bought) the black one. I think it is soooo nice that she consulted you first though. Most people wouldn't do that.

Re: Would you wear a red dress to a wedding?
My boss has a strapless red dress that she told me she wants to wear- my BMs are wearing strapless red dresses. I kind of hinted for her not to wear the dress, because I purposely picked those dresses so my BMs would stand out.
I'm curious whether or not she will. I usually only wear black dresses to weddings b/c I would hate to have the same color or style as the BMs. But I guess if she does, if that is the worst thing that happens that day, no biggie

Re: Would you wear a red dress to a wedding?
I love red, but I have always been hesitant about wearing red to a wedding depending on my relationship with the bride. However, that particular dress is fine. But there always is one overly flashy woman at almost every wedding -- she might not wear red, but she'll wear backless, low cut, high slit, too tight, too short, too sparkly -- whatever, it definitely happens! And in the end they usually look a little foolish

My favorite color happens to be red, and I've worn red to a wedding. Its one thing to wear a tasteful dress that happens to be red, and then theres the sexy red dress that is worn to grab attention. IMO its not the color of the dress, its the style.
Exactly. I would try not wear red, b/c I still go by the old fashion rules & don't wear black either, but one of my friend's may be wrearing red,b/c she has a red tea-length bm dress from her sister's wedding. I think its really cute, not attention-getting.
ETA: Just saw the dress you posted, itis sexy, but not inappopriate.
This is the dress my friend may where, which I also think is fine.

Re: Would you wear a red dress to a wedding?
I wore a knee length red dress with beads on the bottom and a black sweater to 2 weddings, actually. My bridesmaids wore red to my wedding. Two other women also wore red, but I didn't think anything of it.
I was more peeved with the people who wore white and ivory...

Re: Would you wear a red dress to a wedding?
I think traditionally one shouldn't wear red to another person's wedding because it takes the attention off the bride and onto 'the lady in red', however, tradition doesn't hold true in most cases anymore so I think red can be fair game if it's done tastefully. That happens to be a very nice design and a slightly darker red so I think it's fine.

One of my friends (more like a frenemy) told me she's planning on wearing a red dress to my wedding. I didn't think much of it, but my BM (who also knows this girl) was like 'She's doing what? There's a reason you buy a RED dress--it's sexy and attention-getting.' So, now I'm wondering, would you wear a red dress to a wedding or would you think it's appropriate for a guest to do so? Just curious.
Red is my signature color....
It is fine, don't worry, everyone will be looking at you even if she showed up naked.
You will be the most beautiful woman there.

Re: Would you wear a red dress to a wedding?
it depends, If they were doing it just because traditionally they should not, then I would be mad. I did have someone wear red to my wedding & it kind of stood out in pics, plus the dress was way too young for her. I photoshopped her into a burgundy dress instead
