What about what your liberal hero, Hillary Clinton said? 'It Takes a Village'

How sad that you don't care about society. Other people can have bad morals, and it doesn't affect you, right? Just change the channel...

Oooh, can I put down an oh-so-righteous 'applause' in response to this post?

Re: Clear Channel drops the Howard Stern show

Here's my 2 cents:

Evidently (although I didn't hear it) Stern used the N- word, and I do not mean Nipple. If this is the case, then there should be repercussions, b/c under federal law this is considered a 'fighting word.' Cancellation is not the punsihment by law - it is Clear Channel's internal policy.

As far as censorship is concerned, I am not for it nor have I ever been for it. If you do not like what someone is saying or showing or printing, then change the channel, or flip the page.

The First Amendment is written for the purpose of protecting the rights of citizens, and to preserve our abilty to change our government from the bottom-up. This is the backbone of our democratic system, and was the intention of our Founders. If we, as citizens, can no longer express our opinions, then the media can no longer, in any parameter, serve as a watchdog for the people, nor can it act as the catalyst for change.

The fact that certain people use this right to produce entertainment that pushes the envelope is not irrelevant, either. Entertainment is one of the largest indicators of a society's environment.

Even if someone does not agree with Stern, it does not mean that government agencies and corporate partners of these agencies have the right to tell us what we want.... that's what the rating do.

The truth of the matter is, if everyone (or even a small majority) felt that Stern has always been out of line, or that he shouldn't be on radio, then he wouldn't be b/c the broadcasters would not put so much money into a show, and distribute it accross the country if it did not have substantial listenership. A nationally syndicated radio broadcast is very rare, not like television where the networks syndicate all their prime-time shows.

BTW..... the FCC is chaired by Colin Powell's son, who is facing a very harsh reality that he may be out of a job after the election in November. The president appoints this position. Just like any other office, a bit of PR noise is keeping him in the minds and on the lips of the voters.

I don't think it is my job to correct someone else's bad parenting, and it shouldn't have to be someone else's job. I knwo that I certainily don't want that type of responsibility

How sad that you think Howard Stern leads to moral decay and judge all his listeners as people with 'bad morals.' And that you assume that all liberals hold Hillary Clinton out as a 'hero.'

I consider myself to be moral and I listen to Howard Stern every morning. If he is saying something that I don't want to hear or don't appreciate - poof - he is gone, just like that.

Good luck to all of those that want to affect morals through federal legislation. If you believe that is possible, I have this bridge in Brooklyn that I would love to sell you...

Re: Clear Channel drops the Howard Stern show

The n-word has been thrown around on the Howard Stern show, not necessarily by him, for YEARS. This is not anything new. He also has a list of words that cannot be said and he follows that list. In fact, he YELLS at people who call in and use a word that is not supposed to be used. What we hear is a short pause of silence and then Howard yelling at the person that they should know they can't use that word on the air because he doesn't use it. The n-word is not on that list and is never bleeped out.

Why all of a sudden is his show pulled for using a word that had been allowed for years???

I did not say that Howard Stern's listeners have bad morals. I was referring to shelzyp's post about not caring about other people's children, because they are not 'her problem'. Shouldn't we be trying to help out these children who have bad parents? That's all I meant.

And yes, I think that if kids weren't exposed to so many bad influences like Howard Stern and Janet's boob, they might be better off. It's not just one event (one n-word from Howard or one boob flash from Janet), it's the whole idea that these things are acceptable. Where do we draw the line? And who should decide where it is drawn?

I have learned that you should never tell a mother she is a bad mother even if she is. It is not my place to judge other's mothering skills, or fathering skills, even if they are lacking.

Also I am liberal, but not in favor of Hillary Clinton, and to assume that I am in favor of her it takes a village propaganda, is just plain silly.

The guy that called it in did, but Clear Channel felt the show shoud have sensored it.
They have a right to choose who is broadcast on their radio stations that they own.

The government mandating censorship is another story and what you are really debating here.

Re: Clear Channel drops the Howard Stern show

They ahve never expected it to be censored in the apst though, I have heard that word several times on that show, never bleeped out.

If Clear CHannel changes their policy overnight, shouldn't they let Howard, and Tom Chiasano know, they need to bleep that or they will be canceled?

Soory, I misunderstood you

I think that children are exposed to things everyday that are far more damaging than Howard Stern or a boob. The cartoons and videogames are so bloody and violent. MTV is very sexually graphic. How many times did MTV run that Madonna, Brittany, Christina kiss? I just don't undertand how the FCC can take aim at a radio show for adults when there are so many other possible targets that are geared towards children. South Park is so obscene and it is marketed to children.

Why Howard Stern?

Because the CEO of Clear Channel Radio is in front of a Congressional Committe as we speak apologizing for bad programming and they probably wanted to show the committee they were serious about cracking down on indecent broadcasts.

Exactly. You do not have the right to use an obscenity on the LIWeddings message board - if you do you will be kicked off. Why should Howard Stern have more rights than you???

Why Howard Stern?

Because the religious right hates him, and wants him off the air.

I hate CC so much...even on the news last night when they were talking about this...the sports anchor rolled his eyes when CC was mentioned...

they are finding loopholes to control the airwaves and media...and that is just not right!!!
