Simpson was back in L.A. on Sunday and life seemed to continue much as it had before the breakup announcement: She hit a tanning salon and showed off her diamond ring-free finger to paparazzi.

Lachey, 32, meanwhile, indulged in some testosterone-fueled activities on Turkey Day, with 'Extra' reporting that the sometime ESPN commentator watched football with his pals in L.A.

This guy time comes on the heels of his recent 'boys' weekend' in Miami Beach, where, according to People, he and recently separated buddy A.J. DiScala 'unwittingly' wandered into a salacious soiree hosted by Hustler publisher Larry Flynt and hirsute porn veteran Ron Jeremy (they quickly exited). Lachey also chatted up a 'pretty blonde guest' at another bash, says the mag.

'Nick seems relieved that it's all finally out in the open,' a snitch tells the apparently now plugged-in Star. 'I think he feels he can now start getting on with his own life at last. He's really sad that things didn't work out between them but it hasn't been working for a very long time and it's probably been torturous to keep things together for so long.'

According to the insider, 'As far as Nick is concerned he's going to keep things very clean and he's adamant that he's not going to get involved in any mud slinging and name calling. He just wants to be able to move on to living the rest of his life with as much dignity as he can.'

Dignity may be in short supply given Lachey's upcoming plans. The Hollywood Reporter says he's just signed on to star in an in-development WB sitcom, playing a newly married baseball player. No word on whether his small-screen bride will be blonde, buxom and unable to tell the difference between seafood and poultry.

Meanwhile, there's already speculation as to how the nixed 'Newlyweds' are going to divvy up their assets. If there's no prenup, as has been reported, they will have to split everything 50-50.

While this arrangement worked out fine for Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston, whose holdings were about equal, Simpson, 25, with her cosmetics and clothing empires (and her ability to carry off an itty-bitty bikini on the big screen), is said to be worth millions more than her less-marketable (but far more thrifty) hubby.

'... A while back, Joe was complaining to everyone who would listen about all the alimony Jessica would have to pay Nick,' an insider told Us.

I agree w/this completely. That marriage was honestly off-kilter since day one - they're two very different personalities....Nick is very laid back and easy going, while Jess eats up the glam and um...isn't too smart.

If all of that fame, and fortune came my way I can say I wouldn't be that way, but I won't really know until it happens to me.

White Stripes frontman Jack White, 30, and his wife, model Karen Elson, are expecting a child this spring, PEOPLE reports in its upcoming issue.

The couple exchanged vows in June in the Brazilian city of Manaus. A small group of close friends watched the ceremony, which included Stripes manager Ian Montone as best man and Stripes drummer Meg White as maid of honor.

According to a posting on the band's Web site at the time, the nuptials took place 'on the confluence of three rivers – the Rio Negro, the Solimones and the Amazon,' and was officiated 'by a traditional shaman priest on a canoe at the exact point where the three rivers met.'

This will be the couple's first child together.

Law & Order: SVU actress Mariska Hargitay and husband Peter Hermann are expecting their first child together.

'I can confirm that she is expecting,' Hargitay's publicist, Erwin More, tells Reuters. No other details were immediately available.

Hargitay, 41, who plays NYPD Det. Olivia Benson on NBC's Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, met Hermann, 38, on the show, where he has a recurring role. The couple wed in Santa Barbara, Calif. in August 2004 in front of 200 guests.

'They're mad about each other,' wedding planner Yifat Oren, told PEOPLE at the time. 'And they're hilariously funny together.'

Hargitay's mother is Hollywood icon Jayne Mansfield, who died in a car crash in 1967. Her father is Hungarian bodybuilder Mickey Hargitay.

Rioting in Paris Subsides: It's definitely been a bad week for Paris Hilton. First there was that late-night fender bender with beau Stavros Niarchos trying to drive with a jacket over his head. And now the Star is reporting that things are splitsville for Hilton and her billion-heir beau. The last straw may have been the $100,000 bill Stavros had to pay at the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas for trashing his hotel room. Paris reportedly was hanging with Kelly Osbourne upstairs in Stavros' suite when a pillow fight got out of hand. Somehow, a table got thrown and broke a sprinkler head, which wound up damaging four rooms. Star's snoopers say Stavros is tired of Paris always pushing to 'party hard like rock stars.' Meanwhile, the Enquirer is reporting that Stavros has had his allowance cut off by papa Philip Niarchos until he dumps Paris. All of this may help explain why Paris, according to news reports, already has a new pet: a monkey-like kinkajou named Baby Luv. But even this liaison is proving problematic.
The kinkajou reportedly bit and scratched Paris' face while they were shopping for lingerie in a Hollywood boutique. We're just guessing here, but we think Baby Luv may have been displeased with the lingerie Paris chose for him.

Rap royalty turned out in force yesterday in a star-studded show of support for Irving (Irv Gotti) and Christopher (Chris Gotti) Lorenzo during contentious closing arguments at the music moguls' trial.
The brothers, who are accused of laundering drug money for one of New York's most notorious cocaine kingpins, made sure there were front row seats for Russell Simmons, Jay-Z, Damon Dash, Ashanti and Ja Rule.

A court clerk even bounced an official from the Brooklyn U.S. attorney's office to make room for rotund rapper Fat Joe.

The jury is expected to begin deliberating the charges - which could put the Lorenzos behind bars for 20 years - today.

Simmons, who grew up in Hollis, Queens, like the Lorenzos and gave Irv Gotti his start at Def Jam records, questioned the government's motives in bringing the case.

'Poverty and ignorance in our community is more of a problem than convicting our poets,' Simmons told reporters outside Brooklyn Federal Court.

Between signing autographs, the stars listened as prosecutors and defense lawyers clashed before a packed gallery.

Prosecutor Carolyn Pokorny pounded the defendants, who she accused of laundering illicit cash through their successful Murder Inc. record label for Kenneth (Supreme) McGriff, 'the biggest, baddest, most dangerous druglord in New York City.'

The Lorenzos allegedly accepted large sums of drug cash packed in shopping bags and shoeboxes, then filtered the drug proceeds back to McGriff in the form of corporate checks, travel expenses and funding for a movie, 'Crime Partners,' produced by the crack kingpin.

'They helped him masquerade around the country pretending to be a music executive with legitimate income,' she said. McGriff 'was a street thug.'

Members of McGriff's feared gang, known as the Supreme Team, became 'embedded' at Murder Inc. in various positions, including Irv Gotti's driver and Ja Rule's bodyguard.

Pokorny ripped defense lawyers Gerald Shargel and Gerald Lefcourt for their tactics which, she argued, were beneath 'men of a certain age.'

'I may be a man of a 'certain age,' but I'm not going to talk to you like you're in kindergarten,' Shargel told jurors. 'Even if Supreme McGriff was the biggest druglord in the world - forget New York - and even if 'Crime Partners' was the worst movie in the history of American entertainment, there is nothing illegal in giving financial backing to the movie.'

The defense lawyers argued that McGriff may be a bad guy, but he provided street credibility and protection to Murder Inc. artists.

'My reputation is what keeps n------ in line, never to f--- with us,' McGriff told Irv Gotti's wife in a text message.

I'm so sick of this, everybody knows where they got the money from...Supreme!, and everybody knows Murder Inc is.....Done! Ashanti...will never sell like before,neither will Ja. Cadillac TY, and Charlie Baltimore , and Vita, they got rid of her so fast she never had a chance. Come on already

Sources confirm to Us that Garner, whose due date was December 8, had her labor induced at an L.A. hospital. The actress is married to Ben Affleck, 33. ''They induced last night,'' a friend of the couple tells Us. ''Ben was with her the entire time.'' Last night, when asked by Us when Garner would be giving birth, Garner's Alias co-star Joel Grey said ''Tonight.''
When contacted by Us, a rep for Garner wouldn't confirm nor deny news of the birth. A rep for Affleck could not be reached.
