I invited my friends and they assumed they could bring dates. I basically had to call them and clarify b/c of restricted amount of space i can not accommodate your date. Sorry! Unless they are married or engaged then the significant other is invited.
That's what FH said - I was going to invite everyone w/ a date - he told me I was nuts - he's not even inviting his best friend w/ a date (b/c he doesn't have a significant other)

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread
I agree to invite '+1' only if they have wives/fiancees/girlfriends. There's this girl I know who always brings her sister to weddings when she's allowed guests. I'm sorry, but that is a waste of space and money for the hosts if they don't know the sister. Some people take the '+1' as an open invitation to bring whomever and not necessarily a real date.People who I KNOW are 100% single are not going to be given the opportunity to bring a guest to my wedding. That makes the most financial sense to me. I'd rather spent an extra $100 on favors or something rather than having someone's sister there.

I agree. Only people with spouses, fiances and significant others. I know the feeling. I have someone on FH's side who brings her sister everywhere. She wanted to bring her to my bachelorette party and NOW i am being pressured to invite her to my bridal shower. By the way, not the nicest woman. She makes the gathering difficult since she's so miserable.

A lot of photographers don't do videography, so its pretty common. I'm surprised that the photographer didn't have anyone to recommend. I am using Duval for everything. They are experienced with South Asian weddings, so you might want to call them. They are located in Wantagh and ask for Liz.

Ok, I think I'm going to have to use this approach - sux b/c one of my close friends asked me if she can bring someone (she isn't dating anyone) and I was like uhh ok but now I'm going to have to say no.

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread
People just assume they can bring someone. Its hard to tell them but once you get it off your chest and realize how much your saving you won't think twice.

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread
i only have about 5 single friends so we did invite them with dates so that during the slow dances, they had someone to dance with. they ended up coming solo but i would have been pissed if they bought their kid sister or their mother or something, i mean thats not really what a +1 stands for.although i wouldnt have felt bad if i was single and was invited w/o a date. people really dont realize how expensive weddings are!

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread
so i spoke to my mom last night and she said that 95% of the shopping is done, and she has one more week there. she already has like 3 suitcases filled!!! and she is really afraid of the luggage getting lost, and now im worried!! I reallyyyyy hope that she gets all her luggage whenn she arrives back, bc when she got to Pakistan, Emirates lost both her suitcases, but she did get them after a day. this is unnecessary stress!

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread
hello everyone. wow, i must say the amount of pages was/is overwhelming. i want to wish all of you the best of luck and amazing ceremonies.im writing here because i have a bit of a dilemma. Im Turkish and in the Turkish culture we have a Henna night right before our wedding ceremony. During this Henna night, the bride to be MUST wear all red. I am in LOVEEEEEEE LOVE LOVE with the desi weddings and would LOVE to wear a beautifully beaded red and gold sari on my Henna night. However, i cannot afford the hefty price most of these gorgeous outfits cost. I was wondering if you guys could help me.
I would like to know where and IF i could rent one? Or maybe a place where I can buy an inexpensive sari?
please pm me or email me at [email protected] thank you so much in advance for all of your help
xoxo

it is supposed to be 'and guest', i just meant that the guest is usually a sig. other and not some other relative or friend
