Make sure you give your DJ a timeline for the night. It really helps to organize the night. Also, did you get your jewelry, shoes and accesories for the night?? Make sure to get that early in case it doesn't work with your outfit.

jewelery, shoes (do i need an extra pair??) is done.. timeline we're working on.. and planning to meet our DJ sometime next week..

how much time do we need to put in between dinner and desserts? everything will be family style.. viennesse on each table.. so 40 mins for dinner ok?? or is that cutting it too short?

No I don't think you need an extra pair. You will take them off by the end of the night anyway,

I didn't have family style, I had buffet, so the time in between my dinner and desserts was about 1 1/2 hr. So, it all depends where you want it to fit in because you know people always start to leave after dessert so you don't want it too early. I think maybe 1 hr at least in between is good.

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

Hey girls,
I have NO idea how the marriage license, civil ceremony or any of it works? FH and I are getting married in India in August and need a marriage certificate before then so we can take it with us there - since it's a huge process in India if we don't have it. Can someone explain the marriage license, court marriage thing to me?
Thanks!

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

if you both are indian citizens then you can register your marriage in india and get the certificate and it will be fine..

if either one of you or both american citizens, you will need to apply for marriage license here (if ny, then apply wait 24 hours and then get married, by just signing some papers)..

eta: or as you said, you can just get legally married in ny and then take your license with you.. but just give yourself enough time to get license because its mailed out..

hth

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

hi girls,

For those who don't want to wait for the marriage certificate by mail you can actually take it in and wait while they process it. you will get your certificate the same day!

I got those ballarina flats slippers and those helped my feet soo much.

when doing your schedule always give at least 15 mins to run late.

hope this lil info helps.

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

Thanks for the help girls - I wish FH would get on this - he wants a specific judge that he worked for to do it - and july and august are super busy for us - so I'd rather have it planned out. Anything new going on with you girls? I've been making super to do lists but not getting anything done. Registering seems like it's going to take forever. Did you guys go with FH to register or a friend/mom - or both?

That makes me feel better - I think it's going to be FH, my mom and his mom - I just wanted it to be FH and my mom - but then it would cause issues - ughhh

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

me & fh went to register on our own....spent a good 3-4 hrs at bbb and about 1hr at macys. fh was in charge of the scanning, which he loved. and the best part was that we got to select our bedding and bath and dishes with each other....with no other opinions....after all, we're the ones who will be using it

I TOTALLY AGREE with you. thats exactly what FH and I did too. We went together, and it was really a lot of fun! of course, I was holding the scanning gun and not letting him scan anything hahah

so anyone nervous.. yet?

im feeling a lil nervous...just hoping everything goes well on the wedding day.. i had a whole timeline figured out for the wedding day and i showed it to FH last night, and FH and his mom totally want it changed.. they want things to be earlier. since we ( my mom and I) screwed up on the timing of the hall. we have it from 8:30pm which is already late!! They are insisting on having an early dinner and doing things earlier so that people actually dance and not leave right after an extremely late 11:30 dinner. what do you think??? I think it makes sense, since we have the valima reception the following day in NJ and we have a lot of people coming from NJ the wedding day as well

At my engagement party - no one danced after dinner and the only dancing we ended up having was before - it may be different for you and a different crowd - but I'm going to move dinner as late as possible for the reception.

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

yeah FH and FMIL are totally against having dinner so late since they are coming from NJ with about 50 people, and with memorial day weekend traffic it may be a long ride.. im not sure what to do..i understand it making sense. i mean i would like people to enjoy and have fun, not be tired waiting for dinner, and then leave right after..
having dinner early, older ppl may leave after but im hoping my friends and his friends stay to dance and party!

Re: OFFICIAL Indian 'Desi' Wedding Thread

i'm doing a late dinner.. and i have another ceremony the next morning but it's only w/ family.. so i see your point..

most people will dance before dinner..and you are serving cocktails its not like you will be leaving them famished.. and it's a wedding.. there will a few inconveniences for people.. but they'll get over it.. so don't let it bother you..
