Re: Paging all Latin Brides
LOL! Thanks Karina
OMG, Dominican Republic was great. But the sun is a killer!! I went with my friends for Spring Break in March 2001. We had brought 15SPF sun block with us and it was not enough. We got sooooooooooo burnt and even got rashes from being in the sun too long
When we went to the local store to get stronger sun block, they told us that they didn't have any, because it was only March
The tan that I got in DR was the best tan I have ever gotten so far though

Re: Paging all Latin Brides
Curly2003,GREAT IDEA!!!!! Love this website!
My name is Lissette and DH is Patrick. My family is 100% Ecuadorian and Pat's is Italian & Polish. We are getting married in May...we met in South Beach hence my screen name SOBE2003!
He lives in LI and I live in Manhattan (for 2 more months!!!)Wedding info:
Reception-NRC
Ceremony-Lynbrook
DJ-Starlight Express
Makeup-Jackie (Imakeupyou)
Hair-friend owns salon in LI (have wavy black hair, not 'malo' but thick kinda Asian)
Dress-Private Label
BP-9 Ushers, Matron, MOH, 5BM's
Believe it or not, Bridal party is big b/c of him and not me...my original idea was to get married on an island in a tankini but NOOOOOO he needed his entourage. Anyway, even though it has been hectic planning, I rather do it this way now!
Would love ideas to incorporate more Spanish traditions for our day...will recite my vows in Spanish since parents only speak Spanish.
Suggestions?

Re: Paging all Latin Brides
Curly, i am glad the image of me 'dancing' w. FH gave you a laugh. Its much funnier in person
but he has a good sense of humor about it...which he needs as all of my girlfriends and I make fun of him for his lack of dancing skills.I went to DR last December, and was so tan. I also got a bit crispy there, its my own fault for being overzealous w. the tanning. All my cousins warned me I would burn! I wish I could go back, I am so white now I am nearly transparent! FH burns at the thought of sun, he is very fair. We spent half our vacation in DR slathering him in sunscreen. Poor thing

Re: Paging all Latin Brides
You all are too funny...
I need some color myself and just went tanning last weekend - when I put a white shirt on my skin looked king of green (olive skin) - ugh!!!
I also don't have much bootie but plenty on top - wish I could take some of that and push it down there....HA
It's so funny you all are talking about the new Copa because after my FH proposed to me at the W hotel in Times Square, we met up with all our friends at the new Copa (this was the day after Thanksgiving and it was freezing!!!). The club is really nice and the night we met, John Leguzamo was there promoting his new movie (I think its on video now). He is sooo short!!!! But really funny.
I also miss Latin Quarters - that's where my FH and I first danced ever (wow - that was like 6 years ago!!!). Jimmy's is O.K. but I really don't know any of the new ones out there - do you guys know???
For those of you whose FH doesn't dance Salsa - teach them, take lessons with them, whatever!!!! I think it is the most fun and sexy thing to do with your FH and they'll love it too
By the way, Leonard's looks awesome - what a beautiful wedding you'll have!!!

Re: Paging all Latin Brides
cw0904- I used to go to the old Copa ALOT. The hip-hop/freestly rooms were always packed b/c it was so small. Latin Quarters was our favorite.
I really don't like Club NY and can't think of any more.......Marcel1654-I went to Spring Break to Mexico and got as red as a dang lobster. You are very lucky chica
Sobe- Welcome!!!! To incorporate more Spanish traditions into your day how about a nice poem in Spanish on your program or have someone do a reading in Spanish???
Bird- I have to muoch bootie and NOTHING on top, let's switch, LOL!!!!
Marecllabella- WOW!!! what a great pic. I've never tried the fake bake thing but after seeing that pic I may have to start

Re: Paging all Latin Brides
I don't want to get really tan but do NEED some color. Never even thought of fake bake. Is it safe? How many times should you go to maybe go 1-2 shades darker. Keep in mind I am VERY pale. Any suggestions. Thanks!!

Re: Paging all Latin Brides
You would see results in like a couple weeks, if that.. you are NOT pale.. when I think of pale, I think of nicole casper kidman.. lolYou have to go on a good bed to get a good base, no lotions, then after the 2nd or 3rd time then you could use a little lotion.. nothing zizzling. you want bronzing.. and that's it..

Re: Paging all Latin Brides
LOL.. yes, there are dif beds and each place has dif beds..basically you want a bed that has face tanners.. not a regular tube bed..

Re: Paging all Latin Brides
I think the best bed is on Queens Blvd - it has a big yellow sign and it's near the court house. But you should really start out slowly. You can get burned.Les Pulets - that was an awesome club - I saw Jerry Rivera there a long time ago - wow, am I getting old or what
Anyone have any nice Spanish poems - I was thinking of having someone read it or put it in the programs -

I've actually never been to a salon...they scare me a little- I just don't know where the good ones are- and even if I went I wouldn't know what to do...so stupid- I know! But I think I am going to Have to go before the wedding to get rid of tan lines for my strapless dress...any suggestions?

Re: Paging all Latin Brides
As for fake bake tanning I tried it twice, the first time was good, the second time I burned.I don't know what I'm going to do yet b/c i would like to wear a strapless dress and I don't want tan lines but the sun will be hard to avoid since my wedding is in the middle of the summer.
Curly: Do we need to provide cocktail hour music at Leonard's?
