Re: Is video needed????
I am going through the same thing. My FH and I think that it might be a waist of money because we will probably not watch it much. I think I would rather put the 1200-2000 to something else.

Re: Is video needed????
Nope! In my opinion, viedo is a waste of money. How many people do you know who have video of their wedding watch it? I don't know a single person. And most of the people I know who have it agree it was a waste for them. But some people are really determined to get it.

Re: Is video needed????
I am definitly having video at my wedding and I think it is actually really important. That day you are so busy and there will be so many things you miss, dont see, or dont get to enjoy that you would miss out on if you didnt have a video.Another important reason for me to have it is for when our parents and other close family members are no longer around. I want to be able to see them laughing and dancing and having a good time. I know my children would like to be able to see it as well ( I really enjoy watching video from my cousins wedding with my grandmother that passed when I was very young talking on it)

Soon2bMsZ brings up a good point about seeing the reactions. I am trying to save various costs as much as possible!! I would hate to not get one and regret it because you can't go back in time. I would just also hate to get one and never watch it!ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh decisions decisions!!!

Re: Is video needed????
From a past bride - the video is something that you will definately want! I just got mine and I was so happy I spent the money to do it. I was thinking of cutting it out but I love it more then my pictures! I would definately have a vidoe. Look into having a film student do it - that should save some money!

Honestly if its not your top priority but something you would like to have there are inexpensive videographers out there. And there are so many other things/ways to cut back and make up the difference. - JMHO
ETS: Your saying you would hate to not have it and miss things or have it and never watch it. Well at least if you have the video the option is there and you cant always wonder or say ' Oh I wish I had gotten a video'

Re: Is video needed????
We didn't get one for a few reasons, all of which are my own opinions.First, I have always hated how I look on videos and both of us really had no interest in getting one. Second, it was so expensive. We didn't really want it in the first place, but then when we heard how much it cost, we knew we definitely wouldn't get it. Thirdly, and maybe I am weird in thinking this, I wanted to remember my wedding as it occurred and have those happy memories as is. I know that I am the type that would watch the video and say, 'Oh my god- why didn't someone tell me I had mascara on my eyelid?' or something stupid like that. And finally, I have been at many weddings where the video guy was so intrusive and annoying to me as a guest that I didn't want that.
So many people have cameras now, why not ask a friend or family member to do it for you? I filmed my cousin's wedding from the choirloft of the church (it was tiny) and it came out pretty good!

Re: Is video needed????
We are planning to have videography so that we will always be able to look back and remember our day AND see all the things that we couldn't have paid attention to. Such as, actually seeing the ceremony, having family and friends on film, and just having a memory that we can watch with our kids years down the road. One of my favorite things that my fh's family does is watch old home movies. I just love that they have their memories and family members on film to watch 'in the flesh,' especially for those who aren't around anymore. For two of my close friends, both married in the past 3 years and both of whom did videos, they have watched them repeatedly, (with family, just as a couple, for anniversaries...) and have said how thankful they are to have that kind of record of one of the most important days of their lives.

Re: Is video needed????
I'm up in the air on this one too. While I'd love to have something to watch on occasion (seriously - how many times will I watch it?) - I don't want to spend the money.Question for those who have done their homework: can I get a videographer simply to tape the day - and not edit it? The majority of the cost is in the editing and production process - the fading in and out, the music, the general clean-up - and I don't want to pay for that! I'd much prefer the raw footage so I can see it for myself. Will videographers do this? Just shoot it and give me the footage, uncut and unedited?

Re: Is video needed????
I am definitely getting one. There will be so many things that I will miss on my wedding day because it's going to be so crazy. I'm spending alot of money and going through so much planning -- I want as many memories of that day as I can get. And, like the other girl said, I want my children to be able to see it someday.

Re: Is video needed????
We just watched our raw footage. We saw so much from the reception that we otherwise would have missed. It was so great to see the ceremony, relive walking down the aisle and our first few moments as husband and wife. See our guest watching us at the church. See the cocktail hour which we were not there for.
My favorite part is that our future children will be able to see it one day. See their parents, all of their grandparents aunts and uncles in action on the big day.
It might not be for everyone and it's not cheap if you want it done right, but I wouldn't trade it for anything and it was totally worth it for us.
We also had a great videographer and I barely noticed him all day and night and I am in 85 percent of the video.

Re: Is video needed????
We're so glad we got the video. While we don't watch it every week, we do watch it once in a while. We even invited the IL's over for pizza and seeing the video. For us, it's more special because my grandmother passed away 3 months after the wedding. She had a great time, and even lead the conga line!!! (we didn't see it, cause we were outside taking pictures) It makes us so happy to see her so happy and having a great time.
Believe me, it's worth the money.
Good luck,
Donna

Re: Is video needed????
I agree with Donna........I want the video for posterity. In years to come when our grandparents and parents are no longer with us, I wil cherish videos to hear their voices again and to make me smile. Pictures are good, but there is something special about videos......chances are that I will probably view my video more times in my lifetime than my wedding album!!

Re: Is video needed????
Im really not a video person....i was positive I wasnt going to get one. But I got one b/c my husband wanted one and so many friends told me to get one (b/c they had not and were sorry).Im very happy I changed my mind. I don't watch my video all that often...but Im glad I have it b/c I think it will be a wonderful way to look back on the day in years to come. With all the money we spend on weddings, its a small price to pay to have it all on tape.

Re: Is video needed????
As more and more brides post, I am starting to get the picture that I should invest the money into one. I guess it really hit home when you talk about grandparents/parents.
I actually had a few tears in my eyes....oohhh I'm such a sap!!!!

Re: Is video needed????
it's not needed... i def wasted the money altho scott seems to like it. our video was tacky. in our video there was this graphic image where water dropped into still water creating a round ripple effect.. TAAAACKY! very amateaurish. you know what ... while interviewing our vendor they showed us a video of one of their client's wedding - I didn't like it at all but scott really wanted to remember the wedding or see what he might have missed. i understood why he wanted the video but after witnessing our own video.. yuck.

Re: Is video needed????
We're usure about this as well...alot of people are telling us to get it bc you want to see what happened at your wedding that you missed...that you'll be too busy to notice everything (which I know is true) and for this reason I want it even more than beforebut in all reality how many people really watch their video that many times??? I just don't know if the money to spend on it is worth it...I have to really debate this one HARD
