Re: Rate the Reception Hall!

I've been to a wedding at the Hilton in Melville..it was beautifully done..A

The Hyatt is gorgeous, especially for the cocktail hour

marriott is also very nice..

I like the hotels for larger affairs b/c you have rooms where family and friends from out of town can relax and change..its great for people who are inviting children to their events b/c parents can books rooms there and not have to worry about anything...

Re: Rate the Reception Hall!

i'm a bit biased--but the watermill is 10!! (it's my hall!)

verdi's of westbury is about an 7

miller place inn--i'd about an 8 to (it's good for small weddings only)

mediterrean manor in patchogue - 6 (i don't like the area it's in, and hear so-so things about it.)

flowerfield's 9 (but the prices i'd give about a 6...it's a beautiful venue, but i think it's very overpriced.)

Re: Rate the Reception Hall!

Swan Club...I am biased because its my hall but a 10...beautiful Gardens and the price is great!

Floral Terrace (went to a wedding here)...didn't like the location or the room but it is beautiful and its a converted theater. The CH was amazing and they gave anyone who wanted seconds during dinner!

North Ritz...Very pretty..1 wedding at a time...We didn't like the food

Sand Castle..we may have considered it if FI didn't live in the area...the room was the nicest I must say!

Westbury Manor...loved thr grounds and the room..the BM was a total turnoff...didn't consider it any further after we met with him

Milleridge...This was our second choice..we loved it but the Swan Club gave us alot more for our money!

Re: Rate the Reception Hall!

My top three were in the following order:
1- Giorgios!!! (Hands down)
2-Vineyard Caterers
3-Eastwind
5-Lands End(beautiful. but VERY pricey)

Theses are great if you want a more intimate wedding...We picked Giorgios because they are SOOOOO helpful, very personable, Mr. Giorgio is such a sweet , helpful man who is willing to work with you in any way to make YOUR day perfect, the food is THE BEST, and a HUGE part is because we have spoken to at least 25 peoplwe who have attended weddings or have had their wedding there, and NO ONE has had a single bad thing to say. They truly rave about the place(Not to mention it is beautiful, quiet, only one wedding, and if you are a beach person, it is steps away, which I LOVEEEE!! Wish my wedding dress was as easy as a pick as ths hall was. Best of Luck!

We already have a thread that we could bump for newbies that rate weddings where people attended weddings, but to do a scale from 1 to 10 is NG!!! It is definitely going to cause drama on this board. Everyone has their own opinions and to do them without having attended weddings is really not appropriate.

I'll bump the other thread, but I would seriously consider ending this one, before someone's feelings get hurt.

Edited: The Topic of the Post is: Have you ever been to a Wedding at?

Re: Rate the Reception Hall!

10 - Fox Hollow (but I'm biased!!!)

Some other thoughts:

Swan Club - Beautiful Gardens, I think the largest room is the nicest.

Garden City Hotel - The large ballroom is pretty, but very expensive.

Leonards - Great prices. Just didn't suit my taste.

Millridge Cottage - Highly reccommend!!! The carriage house has a wrap around terrace that could be great for a summer wedding.

i agree. we all have to realize that opinions are just that---what someone else thinks of a hall or anything else for that matter. i love my hall...but i wouldn't be hurt or offended if someone posted that they thought it stunk!!

Re: Rate the Reception Hall!

ok, let's see...

Flowerfields - 9. I think it's a 10 in everything except price - it's a little more than I was hoping for, but when you fall in love with a place, nothing else will do!

Fox Hollow - 7 or 8. The place is beautiful, and the food is excellent (we ate in their restaurant) but I don't like the wedding factory feel and the high-pressure sales approach we were faced with.

Watermill - 6. Place is beautiful, easy to find, but the decor wasn't so much to my taste, a little too much for me, and I prefer a place that has one wedding at a time. Also, the bm we met with just really put me off.

Carlyle - 6. It's really lovely, the location is fabulous but I didn't like the entrance way or the hall way or really anything outside of the ballroom decor wise - it just seemed kind of cluttered to me, too many chairs and tables everywhere. And the price is just way too high.

Lands End - 7. Beautiful, I love the on the water feel, but I didn't like how there wasn't really much to the outside. I felt like there was a lot of gray going on - gray parking lot, gray ocean (it was a cloudy day). Also a little too in the middle of nothing for me.

Thatched Cottage - 6. It's too bad, because this place could have a lot of charm, but it was looking pretty run down to me - water stains on the ceiling, everything kind of worn around the edges. I love the location though, right on the bay.

Oheka - only saw the outside, so I can't judge fairly, but I was very turned off by it - it felt a bit overdone to me. I was looking for something a little less... intimidating at first glance.

Cold Spring Hills Country Club - 5. Nice, big, spacious room, but not a lot of character or charm. Felt more like a place for a Bar Mitzvah than a wedding.

so, that's what I think of places! Keep in mind that I have my own personal tastes, and many others adore the halls that I didn't like so much. Also, sometimes a lot depends on who shows you around - like at the Watermill the guy we met with completely turned me off. So, keep that in mind, and good luck to those still searching!

Re: Rate the Reception Hall!

I wont rate them but I can tell you a bit about them. I know were all looking for different things. Keep in mind I was looking for a summer weekend, and I wanted a nice view the whole time, cocktail and reception. I also wanted a place to go outside if my guests wanted to smoke or whatever and didnt have to go into a parking lot. The MOST IMPORTANT THING TO ME was... if it rained what will my guests have access to. O.k. if they are inside the whole time now how do I feel about the place... I always thought - take away how I feel about the outside area just in case.

Chateau La Mer - I loved the fact that Nick would help me book on a day where there was not another wedding (because they do host 2 at a time) I was flexibile and he booked me during a bridal shower and I never saw their guests. The view from the CH was gorgeous and in the reception room was also gorgeous! Stunning, even if it rains. If its nice we can get married right on the water in a gazebo and then be taken away in a yacht for champagne and strawberries. If we had to get married inside I did like my options. We could still have the view of the water. The food was beyond amazing, the service was incredible. And they beat everyones price! Every single hall, even the ones I called and did not visit. Everyone. Nick was so great! I'm sure you'll all see what I mean at the Wedding of The Year!

Jericho Terrace - I LOVED it, the food was amazing, the atmosphere is incredible! It was one of the first places I saw and I booked it right away. I then thought I wanted an outside area because I was having a summer day wedding. So I switched to CLM. I also wanted to be the only bride.

Watermill - The watermill was very impressive! So many beautiful rooms. Its also a lot closer to my home. The only reason I didnt stay was because the outside ceremony area seemed to have traffic noise. I'm sure with music it would be fine, but I didnt hear it with music kwim? Also Bruce would not come down in price. As a matter of fact he ended up being the most expensive. Gorgeous though!

Timber Point - I loved it. A LONG beautiful drive up to the place. The things that bothered me that may not bother you at all were... there were golfers there and I didnt want anyone driving by during my ceremony. Im also a huge picture person. While the grounds were beautiful, the place you have the outside ceremony has a flag pole right behind it. I didnt want a flag pole sticking out of my head. The chandeliers were not centered over the dancefloor.

Windows on the Lake & beach Club Estates - I did not like the person I was dealing with. He was an older man who would not budge on anything. I wouldnt not even be able to have liquor at my wedding because I wouldnt be able to afford it. While it was really beautiful it didnt seem big enough for me and I didnt like that my guests and I would have to cross the street toget to the lake. I was under the impression that it was 'ON' the lake. This I thought was unprofessional - the guy then said if you want to see Beach Club Estates you have to go by yourself and you can only look around the outside. I got directions, drove over and the gates were locked! I couldnt even get in at all

East Winds Country Gardens - The grounds were amazing! Gorgeous! However, if it rained I didnt like my options. Also the guests have to walk from one building to another. My friend went to a wedding there where it was pouring and they held up umbrellas in a line which was nice but she still got wet.

Majestic Gardens - Oh so beautiful. The grounds were just gorgeous! Even the inside was beautiful!! I again thought, well what if it rains.. then I have to have my ceremony inside and I didnt like the options they gave me. Their cocktail room is amazing! I wish they had a beautiful view of the gardens from the reception room.

ETA Lands End - I knew I forgot one. I liked the outside and the atmosphere. I didnt like the ceiling in the reception room. I felt like I was in a church. Also I wnet outside on the cocktail hour patio which would have been awesome but theey were doing a huge construction job in the water. The girl said they were doing it for a while and she didnt know when theyd be done. I really couldnt chance it. Who wants construction in the middle of their cocktail hour. They were willing to come down in price big time as long as you book within 3 months of your wedding. The girl was VERY VERY nice.

You'd be surprised. I agree, though, you would not be happy if you were spending all this money on one place and someone else decided to give it a poor 'rating'. Not everyone is secure with their decisions and I've seen threads like this make some girls totally crazy over their decision.

Re: Rate the Reception Hall!

I am definetly biased on the Bourne Mansion.

The Port Jeff country club is also a nice place. But it definetly depends on the package and what floor you pick.

My sister got married at Miller Place Inn, I didn't like how they ran the wedding at all.

Re: Rate the Reception Hall!

I will not rate but tell you the best things about each place we visited.

Villa Lombardi's (our hall) - What can I no say. The place is amazing. The amount of food they give you is incredible and the quality cannot be beat in LI. The just revamped the rooms. MArble dance food and bars in each room (2 rooms) and fireplaces. Outdoor garden with a gazebo is a perfect picture stop along with the fountain in the front. The one thing I love which may be weird to some is that every guest will be able to sit during the cocktail hour.

North Ritz - Only 1 wedding at a time. Nice outdoor area for photos. Food is different than anyother hall we visited.

CLM - our very close second choice. This was the 2nd plae we visited and if we would have brought money for the deposit this is where we would have wound up. The amount of food was incredible for the CH and dutring the rest of the evening. They offer seconds to your guest which allows them to try a different option. The view is nice and the yacht arrival is very unique.

Russo's on the Bay - We did not actually visit but I have been to many functions there and this would have been the place for me 10 years ago but I have know so many people who have had there weddings there that I wanted someplace new. This is the most amount of food and quality I have seen EVER. The staff is very professional and everything about it is so elegant. You would not be disappointed.

There is one other place we visited and I will not post a review because it was soooo bad. If you'd like the info feel free to FM me.

That's all well and good but when a girl comes on here and reads nothing but low ratings on here about her hall, you tell me how she should feel. You are not talking about some minor insignificant detail about a person's wedding you are talking about their hall. A major part of their wedding. Not everyone can afford to go the best places on Island. Yes, we should all be able to handle criticism, but learn early on that brides on here can be very sensitive to topics like this.

Re: Rate the Reception Hall!

I agree a rating system may be a little harsh to read, so I'll just list my top spots that I have been impressed at:

The Carltun
Lands End
Watermill - beautiful decor and CH
And of course, East Wind!

When visiting places, I also liked:
The Hamlet in Commack

I was also leaning towards a Hall that only had one wedding at a time - personally, that was important to me. HTH.

Re: Rate the Reception Hall!

I've been to and looked at:

1-Jericho Terrace - 10!!! Because it's my hall! Awesome food, awesome location (close to all of our family and friends and convenient), awesome price!!!

Chateau La Mer - FH didn't like all of the mirrors and we got a better price from JT.

Carltun on the Sound - we like that it was just 1 event at a timie but FH didn't like the BM - after shopping around we found we get alot more for our money with other halls and would allow us to make payments that actually fit our budget unlike COTS.

Carltun on the Park - awesome food but too close to our Church, we actually want to be able to enjoy our limo ride!

Chateau Briand - we would have gone with this one but FH's cousin had his reception there and we didn't want to be biters!

Fox Hollow - very nice sized rooms, but it just wasn't us. FH thought it was a little too 'woodsy' for him. He prefers the marble and granite look.

ETA - I REMOVED MY # RATING SO AS NOT TO OFFEND ANYONE. I BELIEVE TO EACH HIS OWN AS WELL. I THINK WE KNEW BEFORE WE EVEN WENT IN THAT WE WERE GOING TO BOOK JT.
