I'm Irish too!

We incorporated a lot of traditions -
* We had a bagpiper at the church
* We had the irish wedding blessing on the back of the programs
* We played the Irish Wedding Song at communion
* We presented the Virgin Mary with flowers
* We played "Our Lady of Knock" (mom's favorite song)
* We played A LOT of Irish music (The Siege of Ennis went over really well)
* Irish blessing at dinner
* Six pence in my shoe
* My dad and I danced to "Daughter of Mine" - there wasn't a dry eye in the house
* One song we played that meant a lot was "Black Velvet Band" - my dad use to sing it to me at bed time.
* Claddagh unity candle holder - it was GORGEOUS - I'll try to post a pic.

If I think of anything else, I'll post it!

Where did you get the unity candle holder - it is gorgeous
I thought it was a 5 pence for the shoe??

Thanks! I got it here celtic treasures
But I found it cheaper somewhere in Port Jeff after I'd already bought it. It was pricey but it is real Mullingar pewter and I will use it again and again!

Have you thought of any celtic ornaments. FOr a friends bridal shower we gave out ceramic shamrock ornaments.

As of know we are doing pint glasses - the crystal things tend to be very expensive and not all appreciate it

Yea I was looking into the shamrock ornaments but FH and I wanted to give out something that our guests might be able to actually use like a small dish/vase or something of that sort. FH isn't really big on the nic nack thing. . .

I don't know how close anyone is to the Babylon/West Babylon area, but there is an adorable Irish store on Montauk Hwy (in the Kmart shopping center). They have the cutest garders with shamrocks on them. They also have head pieces that have celtic knots on them.... soooo pretty! Just thought I'd share.

Re: ---- Official Irish Bride Thread ----

I finally finished my ceremony music!!!! We are getting married in Ireland but are having many American people come over for the wedding so I wanted to make sure I incorporated songs from both backgrounds. Let me know what you think:

Processional:

For the family and Bridal Party: Jesu, Joy of Man's
Desiring

Bridal Entrance: Canon in D

Lighting of the candle: Ave Maria/ Amazing Grace

Psalm: Hiding Place

Alleluia: Sung

Candle Ceremony: Ubi Caritas or Veni Creator Spiritus

Offeratory: Bi a Iosa Im Chrios (The Body Of Christ)

Communion Rite: Ar nathair (The Our Father- in Gaelic, not sure though may do it in English)

Sign Of Peace: Make me a channel of your Peace

Communion: Panis Angelicus, Suantrai (acapella) Suabtrai is an absolutely perfect Irish Lullaby- goosebumps!

Reflection: She moved thru the fair (acapella- I think)

Final Hymn: may the loard our god bless you with love

Any other ideas!!!!

It's nice, it has some cute stuff in there. There's also one right down the road in Cold Spring Harbor as well.

What are you looking for in particular?

They do have unity candles and other wedding things, I haven't been in there in awhile though, probably since last year.

I'm also not sure how late they are open, they are called the Irish Alley, I'd call them and see!

Re: ---- Official Irish Bride Thread ----

You HAVE to check out
celticcandle.com

They have lots of celtic themed unity candles that are FAR nicer than any i've seen in the Irish import shops.

I got the celtic cross one and chellynyc got the claddagh one. they come personlized with your names and the date of the marriage as well as coordinating tapers. we are both very happy with our purchase. I love mine and will have it forever!

Yes, you have to check them out!!! I got the white pillar candles and matching two tapers...they have a claddagh on them with our names and date. I also bought a shamrock holder.

Celtic Candle Website

Just noticed that your wedding is less then two weeks away.....the candle took about a month for me to get it. Maybe they can do a rush order for you but it may be cutting it close.
