She is a licensed cosmetologist and esthetician. Starting as a key make-up artist for Estee Lauder in Manhattan, she later moved on to theatre and fashion show make-up.

Karen continued her cosmetic career working with celebrities and photographers. She has worked for M.A.C. cosmetics since 1999.
