Re: Contraversial topic so be prepared...

Matron, you and your gelatin soapbox..you converted another innocent! Our plot to take over LIW is advancing...

Anyway... I think this thread did turn into an a ttack and I do think it is an antagnositc questions and it DOES ask people to explain their eating habits, whtehr you like it or not, but fashionhag did warn us.

Still, you woudln't like me asking many of you 'How come you're getting married in a church, but you have premarital sex?' it's the same question, and you wouldn't really like being asked it either.

NO ONE came on this board EVER saying 'You should all be vegan/vegetarian'. If we did, then you'd have the right to say we're hypocrites, etc if we don't practice what we preach, but you know what? No one is preaching, except for the people who were preaching at the veggies not t preach, and we weren't preaching in the first place.

Sound complicated? It is.

And that's really the answer. Nothing's black and white. We all have tough choices to make. If I don't eat beef, pork or poultry, then that's up to me, and unless I'm sitting here telling YOU what to eat, I really don't think you have the right to call my hypocrite.

We could start a million posts (such as the aforementioned christian/premarital sex one) to expose the so called hypocrises of everyone on the board, but why?

Besides, we all show it one way or another, eventually, especially on this nasty thread and the one that preceded it.

Peace...

I think I'll take my vegetarian self over to mcdonald's in my leather seated auto and have a fish sandwich...HA

Re: Contraversial topic so be prepared...

it is different to wear leather than to actually physically eat flesh and put it into your body. I am a veggie who tries to avoid leather and animal products but occasionally it is difficult and I will wear a pair of shoes that has a little leather on it. It is totally different than eating dead animal.

Also isn't it good to at least do something good. At least veggies who wear leather are doing something more than those who eat meat and wear leather. They are doing their part against the cruelty towards animals. If you feel that meat is morally wrong but can't yet part with animal products than it is better to do something than nothing. Cutting meat out of one's diet is not only reducing cruelty but also attriubutes to saving the environment and helps fight global warming. It is also not the only way of getting all your nutrients. if you don't have to kill why should you?

something better than nothing. so instead of degrading veggies who wear leather, let's at least applaud them for taking a step in the direction of their beliefs. If everyone did a little something they believed in now and then it would really pay off.

Re: Contraversial topic so be prepared...

I respect people who are vegetarian and/or vegan. But I choose not to be. While I do love animals and feel bad, I also know that we too are animals and its a food chain. Those animals also eat animals. Its too bad, but its how it is. I do sometimes wish I had the will power to be a vegitarian, but I dont.

Look up rennet in the dictionary. Now lick your lips as you taste the mozerrella cheese on your pizza. Yes, you are ingesting the lining of a cow's stomach.

Not grossed out?

why are you trying to gross me out?? you have your belifs and i have no reason to go aganist what you say, but don't push what you belief on me. i am not a vegetraian or vegan, i eat deef, drink milk and take medications that may or may not have been created by testing on animals. you are entitled to your opinion, but don't telll me how i should live my life....

Ya I agree. A lot of us on here are vegitarians a lot of us are not. I think this post was started to generate an adult conversation on the subject and to hear eachothers opinions with an open mind. There is no reason to try and tell other people they are wrong in their lifestyle and trying to push yours.

Re: Contraversial topic so be prepared...

My Dad was diagnosed with High blood pressure and high cholesterol 5 years ago and was given multiple RX's. My Mom threw them out as well as all the junk food, red meat and chicken in the freezer. The whole family stopped eating meat and meat by products. Dads blood pressure was down to almost normal in 3 months time. Five years later my Dad has normal cholesterol levels and perfect blood pressure and takes no medication. At 60 that is quite impressive. My Mom also is on no meds and is in great health.
Stop eating meat for 6 months and you will not believe how regular and normal your bowel movements are. Some people will stop eating meat for moral reasons others do it for good health. My DH also stopped eating meat after we got married and he thanks me for it. He loves the way his digestive system feels. This country consumes to much meat, it is a real health issue that no one wants to hear or deal with 'just give me the meds and I'll go get myself a burger' mentality. besides the beef and milk industry is as big and powerful as the oil companies, and the truth about the effects it has on your health will never be highly advertised.

Re: Contraversial topic so be prepared...

I am a vegetarian. Honestly, I stopped eating meat at 9 years old because the thought of eating a dead animal gave me the creeps. I dont eat anything with a mother or a face. I do eat eggs and cheese and I do wear leather. I try not to think of animals being torchered because it makes me too sad. I never tell anyone else they shouldn't eat meat or say anything when anyone does. Its my choice not to eat meat and so it is mine to decide not to because it freaks me out.
