I was trying to bring this board back to what its intent is --- WEDDINGS! Now everyone else should do the same. Goodnight.

Well, actually, Oct2004, I realize this thread was not about weddings, and there was a previous thread, but if you read what I was responding to, that person brought it up again here...
And although this thread started as a question about veggies who also wear leather, it expanded into much more than that... asking veggies why they avoid milk products and more... which, in my book, requires a response explaining our lifestyle...
where was weddings mentioned in that statement?
Why do you want to fight? Go plan your wedding.

I would just like to clarify that this post was not directed to vegetarians who don't eat meat products for reasons other than moral. Also, I am not asking anyone to explain their eating habits.

Well, lets see, if you were a Budist, you wouldn't eat any vegetables because those are living things as well. Pasta contains whey and that is an animal product...
Ummm, I'm Buddhist and I do eat vegetables. Vegetables are not 'sentient beings' which means that they do not have the mental capacity that humans and animals do to think and feel. We do not eat sentient beings because the are part of the reincarnation cycle--vegetables are not.
Not ALL pasta contains whey, and not everyone is vegan....vegetarians eat dairy products, vegans do not. Vegans read the packaging and do research before eating something to make sure it doesn't have dairy products [whey, cassein, etc.].

. And as far as all of you that say you'd be pissed if you went to a vegetarian wedding, you should reassess what a wedding really is and get over the fact that weddings AREN'T about going to a party -- they're about celebrating in the love and happiness of the bride and groom that you supposedly love.![]()
just to clarify, matron brought up the weddings comment here in her post. i was responding to her.
secondly, i apologize to matron if my response seemed rude. quite honestly, i felt like i was being yelled at for the choices i made in life.
HAVE YOU EVER EATEN ANYTHING BUT MEAT IN YOUR ENTIRE LIFE? HOW COULD YOU POSSIBLY BE MAD AT A VEGETARIAN WEDDING? HAVE YOU EVER EATEN PASTA? Looks like someone's going to have clogged arteries by her 30th bday. LOL!
also, as for the comment about my health, i happen to be very healthy, no clogged arteries here, hun! i have eaten meat all of my life. i come from an argentine family where meat was a staple everyday! i also cannot eat pasta, since you asked! but thanks for the concern!
life is about choices and the freedom to have your own opinions, should we really need to defend them to others?
fashionhag, here is your thread back! sorry to have hijacked it!
now, i will truly be done with this thread.

oct.2004bride, your ARE trying to fight.
You ask questions, but are never satisfied with the answer, then you tell people that they are preaching or throwing the thread off topic.
You're antagonistic and have no respect for other peoples beliefs or opinions.
As for getting back to the original topic I will copy and paste my answer which I already posted on page 1, before YOU asked the questions about not eating milk/cheese and the thread 'went off topic' because of YOU:
>So, to answer your question, I don't wear leather or animal-derived products. >
I'm done with this thread too because the people asking questions are not really interested in the answers, they just want to fight and try to prove themselves 'right'.

I'm all for not taking things seriously, especially since I dislike arguing, but when people feel attacked, they naturally want to take the discussion seriously and defend themselves.
That's all!

where in this thread did i show i have no respect for others opinions/beliefs????
As far as my asking about the milk...i was curious...i wasn't trying to rehas BS from another post...trying to bring in weddings and peoples objection to a veggie wedding?
So far the nastiness and disrespect does not fall on my sholders alone!
Personally i understand Matrons explainations and was not disrepectful AT ALL!
AND when someone said i am doing my part in the cause..that is fine....AGAIN NEVER said anything rude..
so puhleeze whine to someone else

Re: Contraversial topic so be prepared...
I'm still very curious to hear what the vegitarians think about the fact that 4 out of 5 charities test of animals? I think its a touchy subject, BUT if your father died of a heart attack would you still not contribute to the american heart association or their cause because of how the do their testing? Or not contribute to the MDA if you child was born with Muscular dystrophy? It's something I always wondered about vegitarians and those for animal rights...whihc I am by the way but wonder how I would act if those situations applied to me..

It's a really hard question... I don't think, at least for myself, it can be answered in black and white... on one hand, I really do believe in animal rights and don't think it's fair of us to use animals in a cruel way for our benefit... that's why, personally, I've chosen to, as much as possible, not eat meat or use animal products...but, on the other hand, I've been on the other side of the fence... my mother had breast cancer about 7 years ago, and I'm sure her recovery has much to do with the fact that many of her meds were tested on animals... and, now, every year, for the holidays, most of my gifts are a donation to the cancer society... so, yes, I still contribute... and hell yeah, I'd rather my mother be alive than an innocent animal... so to answer your question - I don't know
... I'm torn on the issue

Re: Contraversial topic so be prepared...
Much of the animal testing that is done is unneccessary and becuase there are many physiologic and anatomical differences between animals and humans (including the great apes), animals make a poor “model” for humans. Data obtained on animals cannot be extrapolated safely to the human situation, and therefore are not necessary. If you're asking if I had to choose between my baby's life or having him/her use a medication that was tested on animals, of course I'd choose the latter. I would be sure to research all alternatives before doing so, but I am a HUMANE person .... and believe in the life of all beings, human or not.

Aside from the testing that is done for research purposes...there are a lot of things that we have today because of animals...and if you knew the treatment that animals get ...for us to get certain products/medicine it would astound you...
Just yesterday my aunt was telling me about what is done to horses to get hormone replacement medicine...it is sad...

Yes. Gelatin is in jello and mostly all 'chewy' or 'gummy' candies like gummy bears and such. It is also in some nail polishes and removers and in marshmallows, just to name a few things.Welcome New Vendors
