I did not have a videographer and I think it was the best move of the wedding. My DH's uncle taped it as well as the a great deal of the reception. My FIL is now editing it and adding clips from when we were younger. Is it professional quality? No but it gets the job done. We watched it once and I am doubting we will watch it many more times, but it is nice to have it and know that we spent $0 on it.

Cocktail hour musician ... our CH was outside on the dock at Danford's and I just don't think it was necessary.

i would agree i forgot and didn;t even realise the musician was at the cocktal hour. some of my guest said the same thing to me afterwards

also programs i felt were a big waste of effort time and money.



i did wear my slippers during the recpetion that was a big feet saver for me my feet were kiling me in my shoes all those hours it felt good to get them off.

Yea, we aren't getting string quartet or any extra church music.... we don't think it's necessary.. we are also debating on ch music... they have a beautiful piano in the room at Giorgios and it woud be great to have someone play.. but we aren't sure if its' worth the moeny.. everyone will be talking and socializing anyway

Wow, there are great ideas on this thread...I've been thinking about a lot of these 'Extras' for a while and it's good to hear that they are in fact not necessary in the end.

One of the very first decisions FH and I made was to not have disposable cameras; instead I read on another trhead a fantastic idea of setting up an account on an online photo prinitng site and printing out slips of paper with the acount username and password so that guests with digital photos can uplpoad them. Costs nothing for us nor for them!

I've been debating having CH music, but a lot of my friends saif they really don't notice music at that time. It's nice that this sentiment is verified by other brides.

I also browse the internet for things like garters or jewelry, cake toppers, etc., and I find a lot of things I love. But I stop myself from buying anything so soon (I still have over 330 days to go!) because I'm sure my opinion of what I want will change as the wedding date approaches. Even if I miss out on a great deal by not buying early, I will at least not end up with more than 1 set of things at the end.

And I will look for a cheap veil and cheap hair pins or headpiece...also great to hear that brides agree!

I feel so much better now, thank you ladies!!

The chocolate fountain for $400 was a waste. We already had a gigantic wedding cake and 20 other cakes (the total $$ of which was the same as that of just the fountain), so the fountain wasn't really used.

I was happy that I got chocolate shot glasses.

The flower petals were not used.

The extra slippers in the bathroom were great! Everyone was glad to have them. Also, I had a few cover ups for those who were cold.

We didnt waste money on anything, we kept it simple.

Didnt do programs~no one noticed
Didnt do slipper baskets~no one cared
Didnt do menus~the hall provided them
Didnt do petal cones~we couldnt throw anything anyway
Didnt get flowers for the church bc we knew it would already be decorated...didnt affect my pictures at all anyway
Didnt spend alot on shoes~no one saw them
Didnt go nuts on an expensive cake b/c it just gets eaten anyway.
Didnt have a card box, MIL had a bag made out of her dress and they all went in there
No photo montage~wasnt missed

I think the do's and dont's are really personal choice specific. I regret not spending the little more on nicer invites, I regret not wearing my hair all up (even tho I know I hate my hair all up), I had a personalized aisle runner and was glad I did. So I think it varies.

The only advice I can give is dont get caught up in what is 'in' now b/c it wont be in a few years. If you have a vision of your day go with it. If you think its a waste it probably is.

the only thing I can say I wasted money on was my bag that says Mrs. W 2008 on it. SOOOO stupid since I can never use it again and didn't use it the day of anyway. Why the hell would I walk around announcing my last name at the year i got married? The jacket at least I got to wear at the bach/shower and the day of.

Oh and green coins (i thought they were chocolates) to put in the OOT boxes but they were just green coins for St. Pats total waste and my fault for not reading the description.

Not sure if this is already on there, since this thread is really long and old - but I was just chatting with another recently married couple last night and we agreed that the biggest waste of money was getting the suite at the hotel our friends stayed at the night of the wedding!

We didn't have enough rooms blocked off to get a free room, and since it was our wedding night we went for the expensive suite -- total waste of money!! In the end we didn't go to bed until after 3:00 am once we made sure everyone got home/back to their rooms safely, and then we had to be up and out by 10:00 am to make it to the brunch my parents threw! Totally not worth the extra money for the suite - we should have just gotten a regular room considering how little we were even in it!
