I agree with spending money only on those things you will keep forever (photo, video, etc.) Great Advice!!

I already think I'm spending too much money on the hall.

Well I can honestly say we didn't have or do anything that was a waste of money. The only reason I can say that is because we really did everything our way the way we wanted it. You will never please everyone and it is your day make sure you please you and your FH. We paid for our wedding 100% ourselves and my thought on it was thank you for your suggestions, we welcome them, if anyone has any demands come forth with a check in your hand to pay for it. JMO

I splurged. Sure, everyone throws them out, BUT, you will probably have yours in a shadow box, and it will definitely be photograhed! I used it as the first page of my album. So, I'm glad I splurged.

Just for teh record: I HAVE NEVER THROWN OUT A SINGLE INVITATION !!!

In fact, I made a scrapbook of our friends weddings! Evenif not, I save sentimental SH*T so I'm probably not the norm..but some people DO notice...and if it matters...
I got a lot of responce about my inviations...adn had I not made them myself...they could have cost over $600..(I've priced things in their category)

SO I SAY YES! SPLURGE! if it matters to you it's a good idea!
Also, it's the first impression people get of your wedding!
I always get a picture in my head of waht the wedding will be like based on the presentation and design..also wording.

Splurge $10 each? sure

splurge an extra $100 each? no way!

but, your flowers will be in the background of all your reception pics!

Isn't it an 'intermezzo' to clean the palate? I can't believe they charged you that much. They wanted to do that to us too and I just asked that they remove the fruit salad. So the guests will get an intermezzo as soon as they come in from the CH, then a salad, then the main course. They think us brides are cash cows!

Yes, it is and it was a really nice touch. They served it after the soup and salad. We also chose it instead of the fruit cocktail. But they still charged us that ridiculous amount!

That is amazing. Sorry to hear that. At Chateau Briand that was part of the meal. No extra charge. You also got a salad and an antipasta plate. Then the main meal.

For me I spent the most on the photography.
The flowers I spent about $3,000. They do add a special touch to the day.

Viennese Cookie and Fruit Trays at the end the wedding with wedding cake was a big waste. Everyone was so full by the end of the wedding.

I don't agree about the slippers. I brought them pretty cheap and they were a life saver for me. I danced the night away and never would of been able to without them. I have gone to weddings too where i have seen the bride with no shoes on by the end of the night so my advice would be to GET THEM!

Biggest waste of money...I was pretty frugal.....here are some great ideas..

SAVE THE MONEY ON INVITATIONS I brought like 200 of them for 354 total. I know people who spent a fortune on them. People look at them, stash them away and then throw them away...not worth spending that much money on them. I also printed all the outside invites and inside envelopes on the computer and they looked nicer then some calligraphy ones i have gotten.

I also save a ton on flowers. I was originally going to get a dozen roses on each table then went with a candle with rose petals. Not only did they look amazing but i saved $4000!!!!

There are TWO things not to skimp on in my opinion...your dress and your honeymoon. I actually got my dress for 1200 - pretty cheap these days - but i loved it.....and you will have to look at pics the rest of your life in that dress. And don't skimp on the honeymoon...you only get one of those once in your lifetime...LIVE IT UP!!

thanks so much for starting this post, Im sure itll come in handy for the rest of us:) ITs funny you should mention the dying of shoes, because I just recently got rid of a pair of shoes that were dyed purple to match the dress I wore and they were only worn once.

Oh no.. You should have had them redyed black. For like 5-10$. Unless you didn't like them. In that case.. Good for you! I am the worst at throwing stuff.. Such a packrat!
