We added a scoop of sherbet to the menu. It was served between the salad and main course. Mom thought it was elegent. I thought it was a huge waste of $$$. They charged us $6 per scoop!!

I love when sherbert is served, but for $6!!!!

and wouldn't you think that for $6 they would have least added a garnish

Isn't it an 'intermezzo' to clean the palate? I can't believe they charged you that much. They wanted to do that to us too and I just asked that they remove the fruit salad. So the guests will get an intermezzo as soon as they come in from the CH, then a salad, then the main course. They think us brides are cash cows!

I'm not having sherbet or anything. This isn't you know, some royal food tasting..most people don't even know what it's for. I don't see the point. It was the same price as the pasta course..and I'm italian, so you KNOW which one I picked!

Re: For you not-yet-married Brides from us Already married Brides: What was the biggest waste of money involved in your wedding?

The slippers were a life saver for me, maybe the veil, my FSIL told me they have crystals u can put in your hair I would have rather had that and a simple piece of veil i could have pulled right out after the ceromony. Let me see what else........ we did not have the vienese hour I think it would have been too much food and a waste of extra money that we would have rather put towards something else for the wedding. I tried to be practical for my wedding and not get tied into things that seemed like a waste of money. If I think of anyhting else I will post it.

Yes, it is and it was a really nice touch. They served it after the soup and salad. We also chose it instead of the fruit cocktail. But they still charged us that ridiculous amount!

What about invites, should I splurge on expensive ones I love, or be reasonable?

I splurged. Sure, everyone throws them out, BUT, you will probably have yours in a shadow box, and it will definitely be photograhed! I used it as the first page of my album. So, I'm glad I splurged.

Re: For you not-yet-married Brides from us Already married Brides: What was the biggest waste of money involved in your wedding?

Luckily I'm the last of my friends and family to be married so I learned a lot of these lessons from them.

My FSIL gave me this piece of advice...
'Spend money on the things that last beyond the day'

So I took that to mean rings, photography, honeymoon.

This is exactly what I did and I am so happy I did! I scrimped on most of the other stuff and don't regret it at all!

Re: For you not-yet-married Brides from us Already married Brides: What was the biggest waste of money involved in your wedding?

I was lucky to also have people to give me advice, so in hindsight, there's nothing I would have done differently. But there are a few things that I am glad I didn't spend on.

Veil- I got mine for about $30 on veilaccents.com. It looks really nice in pics and I was happy with it. I saw similar ones in the shop where I got my dress for much more.

Unity candle- I made ours for about $10. I could not stomach paying $30+ for the ones I saw in Michaels'. I bought a plain white pillar and two tall tapers, got wide silk ribbon, tied a bow and hot-glued a small flower in the middle. They looked really nice.

I would have done something similar for toasting flutes- gotten something simple and maybe embellished with a small bow or something. But my MOH got us really nice ones.

I also made our card box.

Oh, now that I think of it. the guest book was a waste. No one saw it.
