Re: Official 40+ Brides
I'm making a special dinner (lobster tails, risotto and honey glazed carrots, salad) and we are going to stay in also. We were invited to go upstate and visit some friends of DH's but DH has to work Friday and Saturday
so it wasn't worth all the aggravation of driving.....Happy New Year to all our 40+ brides!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We are not doing anything tonight. I am still battling my pneumonia and FH has to be at work at 5 am tomorrow so I don't even think we'll be awake to watch the ball drop. We're both kinda sad about it, but there's always next year!Have a safe, healthy, happy new year everyone.

Re: Official 40+ Brides
Yup - I got pneumonia. Started as a cough that I ignored for a couple of weeks and then Whammo! Hit hard the day before Christmas Eve - just in time to ruin all the holidays this year.No worries about tonight though - I was never a big fan of NYE - to me it's like prom night was - you got all excited about it and then it was 'is this it?'
Besides, I'd much rather have FH work tomorrow and get that holiday rate of pay! We have a wedding to pay for!
Thanks for all the good health wishes - I'm definitely on the mend - although the steroids are making me freak out a little bit and the antibiotics are doing a number on my stomach - at least I can take a deep breath again!
Here's looking forward to 2009!

Re: Official 40+ Brides
I am a little upset. I was just talking to my parents and was asking them who they wanted to invite. My father said he didnt know and I have time. Then they told me that they didnt know why I am having another wedding because everyone went to my first one. It kinda upset me. I really want my Aunts, Uncles, and cousins to get to know FH and I would have had a party anyway. And its not like I am havinga sitdown evening wedding with a huge CH and VH. Its going to be a afternoon buffet I just want to celebrate my marriage with the people I love. I dont think I am wrong about that. I just needed to vent a little

You aren't wrong...you're getting married
It seems like they don't understand how important this occasion is to you and what it represents. And you have every right to have any type of wedding you want, whether it's your second or your first or your tenth (God forbid lol). Maybe you could sit down with them and explain to them what this means to you and how important it is for them to be here to help you celebrate your new life with a new best friend and soulmate.

I am trying to explain to them its not going to be a typical wedding. We are not having alot of the tradional wedding things (throwing boquet/garter, dances with father/mother). We are making it more on a party theme then wedding, Yes I will be wearing a long dress and FH a tux (but not black tie) and we will have a first dance and fh want the cake cutting thing. But we wanted a more relaxed type of celebration. I really dont think that they understand.

I would be upset too. I think sometimes parents forget that any wedding is a cause for a celebration. They will come around. Are you close to any of your 1st cousins or do you any sisters or brothers. They can help you with the address.

I actually spoke with my sil/moh about it and her and my bro are going sort of bring it up the next time they are at my parents. Also I am planning on talking to one of my cousins who is a priest and will be my officiant to address it to my parents. The problem my parents have is that they feel that all these people came to my first wedding and gave gifts once. I think its about the gifts. That was in 1989- 20 years ago!!! Do people have more that one birthday that they get gifts for? Probably not the same thing, huh?

I do understand about the gifts, but many people will still celebrate your marriage and if they don't then you will know where you stand. It's all going to work. Remember our parents sometimes think in a different time zone.

Listen, if you wanted to have a traditional wedding for a second marriage that would be your right.Nobody has to give a gift, nobody has to accept the invitation.
It's your right to have a wedding.
I went through this with my Grandmother-in-law who was initially very negative about our west coast reception. At the end of the day she had a good time and was happy.

You are so right. If people dont want to go well they are going to miss a great party. We are not doing it for the gifts, We am doing it to celebrate our love. What gets to me is that my parents know what a horrible marriage I had the first time around. you would think that they would be happy that I finally found a great man who will treat me the way I should be treated and want to celebrate that with all of my family.
