Re: ***~OFFICIAL Chinese Brides Thread!~*** updated w/ centerpiece ideas
thanx gals for all the compliments! these were taken at the Chinese Scholars Garden in Staten Island. Pics of the gardens are in my profileEternal had an outdoor studio, indoor studio and then wedding day photo package. most couples use the outdoor studio as an e-pic photo opp and some couples use it as another photo opp in a second wedding dress. we used our outdoor pics wearing chinese hanfu so it wasn't a ceremony.
here are some more!

Wow, that's gorgeous. And the dress is so beautiful. I think it's the first time I've seen people wearing it for wedding pics.I'm actually going there this weekend to have my outdoor pictures taken there. I've had my heart set on it since I went there two years ago, but my photographer hasn't been there, so I wasn't sure if it'll turn out well. Your pictures completely convinced me that I was right.

Re: ***~OFFICIAL Chinese Brides Thread!~*** updated w/ cherry blossom/asian flower ideas
I didn't get any outdoor photos during my wedding, so my photographer kindly agreed to do them on a different weekend. I didn't want to pay $600 for hair & makeup at Kakabuka again, so I just picked Just Pretty, a Chinatown salon based on some good reviews online.I thought the girls here might like to hear my experience. It was really interesting and fun -- I got there at 8:30 in the morning, and there were already about 15 girls there, I counted three brides with their gaggles of bridemaids and mothers and aunties. There were seven makeup artists, all extremely busy. To add to the chaos some girls kept on changing their minds about their makeup & hair, the photographers and limo drivers where jumping in and out, and it was total chao. But it looks like Cici, who's the manager had it all under control, and she called out names for hair & makeup separately so no one waited around for too long.
I already have some pictures from my wedding, and when I showed it to them the stylist was able to duplicate the hair style without any problem. She was also super efficient -- she finished my hair in about twenty minutes, using all my own hair. And it stayed put without any problem for the rest of the day, in gusty wind. Even though I hate to admit it, I have to say that they probably did a better job than Kakabuka. At Kakabuka they used a great deal of fake hair, with the result that it was falling slightly apart after the ceremony, and I had to have my mom pin it backup.
Makeup was quite good as well, very light and clean. The girl who did my makeup was really a riot -- I'd love to have talked to her more, but of course with all the craziness she had to move on to the next person. But here at least I feel like Kakabuka was worth the money I paid for it. Just Pretty's makeup was simple and and natural and, well, just pretty. But the makeup artist at Kakabuka made everyone look stunning.
All in all, I thought it was an amazing deal for $100. Of course, it wasn't my wedding day, so I could enjoy people watching from my little corner and not worry about being late or not find my driver etc etc.

have you found any makeup artists who specialized in Asian?
Did you feel stressed to deal with your bridesmaids? Well, there are alot of different cultures. In Chinese wedding, brides are supposed to cover all their expenses vs. American wedding, they should pay for their own dresses. How do you do it?
Hi all
(sorry I don't post more often... didn't find this board until late in my planning...I'm more of a lurker... but I just got married! I have lots of tips for the ABC bride trying to incorporate both worlds!)
Responding to hlc200, I think in the end, you have to do what makes you feel comfortable. Don't be pressured into paying for everything, or else you will see your budget *skyrocket*. Of my BMs, only one had a stable job, 2 were unemployed, and one was a student. In the midst of the bridal planning, I dount out that one was in debt, and the 2 unemployed just started new jobs (which was great), but also meant they had very tought times taking time off work for my wedding planning. I felt really bad, but part of me also wanted to pay for them b/c I didn't want them dressed in rags I was able to find some ways to cut costs, and still allow them to look classy. So here's what I did, hopefully this will help you:
I paid for my BM dresses, and they each got 2 dress. I actually had gotten a good deal online from House of Brides Online . They have dresses for all budgets, plus BM dresses Ship FREE. Only problem was the delivery date was a bit late for my comfort level, but I couldn't cancel the order, b/c there were no refunds. Coincidentally, I got an email a week later for the Vera Wang Sample Sale in the Hotel Penn around June. Headed over there and (get this) got 5 dresses for $100. I had 4 BMs and it worked out so that I got the gratuitous 'red dress' to make my mom happy.
Random other info if you care to read :
-DH also paid for the groomsmen and dad's tux rentals, and we considered them to be gifts for each side (of course the girl's get to keep their dress). Then again, guys don't really have much to take care of... they just show up .
-only one of my BM's was Chinese, and she doesn't know any customs.
-I originally intended on the BMs paying for their own dresses, and I would cover the costs of everything else. Once DH and I discussed it, we realized it would be much easier paying for their dresses, and then let them be responsible for any other costs thereafter (tayloring, makeup, hair, shoes), which they gladly did.
- Keep in mind that bridal party members will likely be giving you a gift, so you can think of it as pre-payment is you wish
HTH! (and as soon as I get pix I'll post more wedding tidbits!)
