Re: ~OFFICIAL DOUGLASTON MANOR THREAD~

Hi! I'm getting married at Douglaston Manor on 7/11/09.. Can't wait!

I actually didn't know that we didn't have to use those oval tables... how many people do the round ones hold?

Does anyone else feel like the T shape will make the guests in the long part of the T feel isolated?

Re: ~OFFICIAL DOUGLASTON MANOR THREAD~

Are there 2 bars or 1 bar?

Are you using the DJ from the wedding plaza?

Re: ~OFFICIAL DOUGLASTON MANOR THREAD~

Hey fellow dm brides.

They suggest 2 bars for the grand room but i am going to use the big new bar in the other room only because i am going to have photo booth in there and i want it to be a lounge type area people can drink mingle and play in photo booth.. i am putting young people in the front and family in the long part of the T. i have 200 + guests so i am going to have the dj setup in the bridal suite to maximize dance floor space and i am also going to put tables in the front of the T where the bar is supposed to go (fh thinks it stinks for those guests but i dont care) all i care about is space i dont want people to feel on top of each other. i am also not going to sit at a dais. just with my step brothers and cousins in the middle of T once again to maximize dance space. The cake table will be in the bar room so people can look at it while mingling and drinking .

here is quick layout i made on pp.

Re: ~OFFICIAL DOUGLASTON MANOR THREAD~

Hi there. I am new to this but am a Douglaston Manor 'bride to be' as well. Looking at next May or June. I am also planning on using the complete package with Ariana Studios. Any one have experience with them? What does it include exactly? I believe the reception, DJ, Limo, invites, flowers, photography and video.

Would love to chat with the official Douglaston Manor women. I love the place. Went there on a whim driving home from a Baptism but knew the Spanish styled Villa/Medieval look was for me with the cathedral doorways and tudor styled European look. The Grand Ballroom is amazing for a wedding and the outdoor cocktail hour overlooking Manhattan gives it that extra pizazze. Can't wait to book and feel settled. Everyone from my BM and the Priest is on vacation in August! :(

Hope to hear back from you gals!

Re: ~OFFICIAL DOUGLASTON MANOR THREAD~

I also fell in love with Douglaston Manor and I am also doing the package with Ariana Studios. I thought it was the best thing for me. What florist are you using?
I did change one thing on the package....the photographer. At first I was fine with their photography. I would constantly look at their proofing site and would call the studio to see who shot the wedding I liked. Then I would see pro-pics on this website and would compare. I was not happy. So I called and asked about taking photography out of the package and they did. They just lowered the amount from the balance and it also helped with some upgrades that I picked for the DJ. I got a photographer on my own.

Re: ~OFFICIAL DOUGLASTON MANOR THREAD~

hi ladies!

i got married at DM on May 16th and just wanted to share my 2 cents! FYI, i'm 'jamichael' on Project Wedding. I think a few of you have peeked in over there! feel free to check out my bio over there for pictures of my wedding.

i'm really sorry to hear about the negative experience someone had. our experience with DM was honestly very positive. sam was our banquet manager and he was very responsive throughout our planning process. he put all of my worries at ease as the day approached, and i had no complaints for him on the day of. my bridal attendant was also fantastic. she made sure that we had a chance to EAT while our food was still hot and we definitely were able to taste our yummy cake. they put two huge slices at our table for us! as far as the service, we haven't heard anything but positive feedback from our guests. if anything went wrong, no one has mentioned it to us. everyone really had a great time!

as for the set up - we had 120 people which, in my opinion, is just about the perfect number for the grand ballroom without feeling crowded. any more than 120-130 may start to feel crowded, especially if you want a lot of space for the dance floor. we used all round tables. we had our DJ set up at the top of the T and our sweetheart table was at the divider on the right side. our cake table was at the divider on the left side. i think our set up really helped connect the two parts of the room. i don't think anyone felt isolated. and with us in the middle of everything, no one ever felt intimidated about coming up to us and taking pictures with us!

we did opt for the complete package with the wedding plaza. they were ok. i think i would give them a B. i'm happy with the photos so far (our photog peter was a sweetheart and so easy to work with!) and i was satisfied with the service for the most part, but if i had to do it all over again, i may have picked different vendors. except for the limo! the limo drivers were wonderful! but i will say that if you are considering the package to save money and you know that you will have more than 100 guests, it's probably not worth it. we ended up paying a lot of additional expenses that we didn't quite expect... and if you are looking for photojournalistic style photos, definitely look elsewhere.

if anyone has any other questions, i'm at project wedding more often, so feel free to find me there!
