Re: Tips-- Wedding Day or After the Fact?

Randi, I called my hall a while ago regarding the tips thing. The owner told me that the %15 gratuity are the tips for the staff, and I am not expected to tip in addition to that.

HOWEVER, I don't know if I believe that the tips go the the staff after talking to people in the business.

On one hand, I don't want to pay twice, especially since the owner said the gratuity goes to the staff. On the other hand, I don't want the staff to think I didn't tip them, after they did a good (hopefully) job, in case they dont get the tip.

OMG...I can't believe I have to figure out a 'tip budget.' And I've heard traditionally, the best man is in charge of handing the tips out? Is that the case? B/c if it is, I will surely be going non-traditional with that...I can't imagine our best man with all of that cash and distributing it correctly! :)

Our Best man has declared bankruptcy TWICE. I'm serious! UGH. My Dad can't communicate so I might need FFIL to do this for us.

Oh no!

I'm thinking I'm going to leave this up to my Dad. Not that our best man is completely incompetent, love him, but I think my Dad would prefer to dole out the tip envelopes.

Re: Tips-- Wedding Day or After the Fact?

We tipped the catering hall at the end of the night -- but mentioned that there would be a tip for a job well done as insentive.

We plan to tip our photographer and videographer once we see finished product.

Day of Wedding Coordinator and DJ were tipped at the end of the night also.

I did not tip my florist only the delivery person.

Re: Tips-- Wedding Day or After the Fact?

Maybe I am cheap, but this is all we tipped:
-about $3 a head to Matre'd
-$100 to DJ - he did a great job
-tried to tip floral delivery, but he was one of the owners and refused it (Now THAT was refreshing)
-my sister paid for my hair, I think she tipped the hairdresser $25
-waited to tip photographer until we saw the proofs at least, but decided not to later.
-The limo contract had the gratuity already included, so I did not tip on top of that.

I agree that all of these people are making a ton of money already from my wedding and most of the time it is their job to do what I am paying for. I also refuse to be responsible for knowing whether or not the proper employees are receiving the tips at my hall- this is their business, they should be doing right by their employees, I just don't consider it my problem or responsibility to worry about that.
